funded 9 Boone Junior College was founded a fully accredited college by the Iowa lnter-Collegi- ate Committee and the State Department of Edu- cation. It offers studies that comply with the College Victory Plan. In addition, ex- tra curricular activities such as Mixed Chorus, Y-Coeds, Dramat- ic Club. and Basketball are offered. Mr. Thorngren, dean of the Boone Junior College, is a very popular and democratic person. He is an ideal sup- ervisor, and it is through his encour- agement and guidance that the classes and activities succeed as they do. In this, its sixteenth year, we find the college deeply engrossed in the happenings of the world about it. Its contributions to the w'ar effort are many and varied, but chief among them is manpower. Many boys have already stepped outside its doors into the arms of Uncle Sam. Those serving their country on the many bat- tle fronts are: Richard Anderson. Kenneth Anderson. Glenn Atkinson, Edward Berry, Darwin Brooks, Davi Deering, Chester Echternach, Jay Flockhart. Gerald Fritz, Burl Harmon, Louis Knose. Dick Lantz, Winston Mark- walder, Robert Morris. Clyde Neely, Charles Peters, Rob- ert Raynor, and Dale Walker. Since our theme is the Scroll of Service, it is only fitting to mention two groups who have contributed time and service. Patricia O'Connell, Jane Kennedy, Mary Holmes and Marietta Carlstrand have served as student assistants in the library. Many of the college boys have been traffic officers, perhaps preventing serious accidents at dismissal time. The basketball team known as the Bears, was coached by Mr. Heggen. In junior college competition the team won two games and lost two. Their schedule was shortened as the draft took members of their opponent's teams. The Mixed Chorus under the direction of Mr. Hakes combined with the high school chorus for assemblies and special civic programs. This year the Dramatic Club presented a three-act play, 'Sadie of the under the direction of Miss Lamb. Participating in the play were Doris Wiernsberger, Betty Cline, Winston Markwalder, Audrienne King, Martha Lowry. Harold Welin, Bill Baird, Bob Raynor, Norma Pestotnik and Margaret Fitzgerald. Barbara Walker was the assistant director. 'Junior College officers were as follows: Hargld Welinv president? Jay Flockhmwt, vice-president, and Barbara Walker, secretary of the freshman Class: Dale Walker presideiitg Betty Halverson, vice-president, and Alice Murphy, Sgcretary of the Sophl, more c ass.
