Each Yuletide the Social Science Club places a tree in the hall and supervises the gathering of food and H Q B B I clothing to be given to the Salvation Army for distribu- tion. Miss Stena Hansen directs the various activities ot this busy club, Every day during sixth period Miss Lamb coaches a group of students in various speech activities. Be- sides broadcasting over WOI they have given pro- grams for various Boone organizations. Here are a few members ot the Camera Club devel- oping pictures in the dark room, Under the super- vision ot Mr. Cunningham and Mr. Bechtel the stu- dents have learned the fundamentals ot developing, printing, and enlarging. A tew members ot the Chess and Checker Club try to solve a knotty problem. Mr. Piper is club sponsor. ES

The debote teom, composed of Robert Kelly, Horlon Herrick, Dick Eckberg, ond Bill Doron, hos been de- bating the topic of government ownership of roil- roads. Among the mony octivities ot Boone High is the Stomp Club under the sponsorship of Miss Hondy, These philotelists meet sixth period every Mondoy. The l-low-do-you-do-it club wos orgonized so thot the students would le-:Jrn proper etiquette ond the refinements of well-educoted people. l-lere ore Vonis Anderson, Kenneth Anderson, Phyllis Finley, ond Loren Downey demonstroting correct toble monners. 'lr 'lr 'lr HOBBIES Two yeors ogo through the efforts of Mr. Evons ond the student council, it wos voted thot sixth period be used os on octivity hour. Before this, time hod been token from the closs periods for octivities. The new plon hos prov- ed beneficiol in thot neither octivity nor closswork is interrupted. The students of Boone l-ligh hove some thirty-five octivities from which to choose o worthwhile hobby. In oddition to those pictured on this poge, there ore the Agriculture Club, which hos been studying the prin- ciples of judging live stock ond groin, the Rodio Club, the Home Ec Club, which hos conducted discussions on etiquette, interior decoroting, em- broidery ond knitting, the Commer- ciol Club, the Drivers' License Club, the Girls' ond Boys' Gym Clubs, the Girls' ond Boys' Glee Clubs, the Boys' Science Club, the Theotre Guild, ond others. The Building Committee, which wos introduced by the student coun- cil ot the beginning of the second semester, might olso be listed os one of the worthwhile octivities in our high school. It is the duty of this committee to toke chorge of locker keys ond bicycles ond to keep order in the holls ond visiting rooms. There is no better troining for citizen- ship ond worthwhile use of leisure time thon thot goined by porticipot- ing in some octivity or hobby.

Dr, Paulena Nickell, Professor and Head of Home Management of Iowa State College, conducts a guide ance group in Homemaking and Related Careers during the Boone Vocational Conference. REWARDS Receiving the highest honor awarded to high school stu- dents, twenty-eight seniors were elected into the Nation- al Honor Society and permitted to wear the flaming torch and keystone pin, Members are chosen on the basis of scholar- ship, leadership, character, and service, The officers for this year are: Frank McGaffey, president, and Mildred Book, secretary. Other members of the society are: Robert Allender, Betty Anderson, Shirley Betzender- fer, Imogene Carpenter, Ever- ett Casey, Arthur Clarke, Vir- ginia Erickson, Robert Fields, Betty .lean Gutterridge, Harlan Herrick, Janet Hill, Bill Kad- ing, Robert Kelly, Leona Krug, Mary Elizabeth Lees, Dovie Lee, Carl Leiden, Ashley Phipps, Myron Piper, Sylvia Robertson, Catherine Schwien, Naomi Smith, Eugene Stand- ley, lla Statton, Arlene Willis, and Joan Wilson. sf ff With an all girl cast, the The' atre Guild presented a mystery drama, Yorkshire Pudding, directed by Miss Ringland. The cast, from left to right, was as follows: Pat-Bernice Parrish, Phil - Donna Pulver, Mrs. Dawson-Mary Beghtol, Pa- mela Dark-Doris Wiernsber- ger, Una - Corrine Scott, Maud E Mary Jane Taylor, Janet-Betty Lee Winfield, Dora-Thelma Richards, and Lady Spate-Mildred Stump.
