PORT A crowd of students and shoppers are shown watching the Homecoming Pa- rade. For the first time, the schools in the conference organized sophomore teams. Here is Boone's team, coached by Mr. O'Connor. Our basketball team played many games, the most successful being the one in which we defeated Ames High, the runnerup in the State basketball tournament, This game was played on our own floor. The football team, which showed scrapping spirit in the face of de- feat, played several games besides its regular conference Schedule. Golf has come to be one of the most important sports at Boone High. Last year up to the time of the state tour- nament, in which we finished fourth, we had lost only one meet. The team was composed of Hugh Powers, Edgar Updegraff, and Robert Allender with Charlie Updegraff and Rob- ert Kelly as alternates. Edgar Updegraff was the State High School champion and runner- up in the State Ama- teur nneet. Dick Jordan, Charlie Updegraff, Kenneth Anderson, Bill Doran, Dick Eckberg, and Fritz Taylor are members of this year's team. Al- though we had played in only two meets when z the Scrollette went to press, we had a full schedule ahead cf us.
