English Dep The English Department has 615 students enrolled in its classes, which makes it one of the largest departments at Boone County High. English is to instill in the pupils’ minds a love of good literature and to make a thorough study of English grammar so that each person may be able to write, speak, spell, and read in an acceptable manner. Mrs. Hazel Fowler headed the department and Mrs. Betty Dilts, Miss Connie Foreman, and Mrs. Carolyn Day taught the many English classes. Mrs. Day added public speaking and drama to the department.

Home Economics T) c P a r t m c James L. Patton, Head of the Bureau of Vocational Education, says, Vo- cational home economics is an integral part of the educational program of the tl secondary schools of Kentucky that is doing its part toward developing the total individual. It is recognized, I am sure, by everyone that the home is a basic institu- tion in American life that is developing qualities in people at an early age that reflect in their conduct, attitude, and their general contributions to society. The over-all purpose of vocational home economics is to train individuals so they will have competencies that will enable them to establish homes and develop basic qualities so that the atmosphere will be conducive to wholesome family living, There are 156 students enrolled in the Home Economics Department, with Mrs. Helen Blanton as the department head. Mrs. Fannie Jarrell teaches home economics I and II, and Mrs. Blanton teaches home economics I, II, and III
