Washington High School Reidsville, North Coroiiho FCDREWCDRD We, the class of 1962, realize that the past is behind us and we must pre- pare for the future goals we seek. That we have made half of our round on the ladder of success has been due only to the cooperation of our teachers and fellow students. It is impossible to relate vividly all of the varied experiences we have had, but we shall gather up some of the remnants. We must not forget to pay tribute to those who have helped to make this our edition of the PIONEER a reality. We have met failure and success, sorrow and joy, taking each in stride. As a constant reminder, as a source of memory, informa- tion and inspiration, we assign the following pages of the PIONEER, 1961-62. For almost eight years we had looked forward to the time when we would be high school students. Mr. Quick, Mr. Powell, Mr. Crawford and Mr. Whitsett were our Freshman teachers. We elected our class officers and got to work. Before we knew it, the year was completed and we were sophomores. We lost several of our classmates which de- creased our group a little. Our activities were rather numerous that year. In the fall of 1961, we were looking forward to joining the National Honor Society and to be a host at the Junior-Senior Prom. We had a surprisingly large number to join the National Honor Society. They were as follows: Sadie Mae .Watlington, Leola Harrison, Charlotte Bell, Annie Abbott, Nancy Price, Ed- ward Townes, III, Irvin Mitchell, Carlyle King, Robert Carter, and David Oliver. Our final year began in September, 1962, with Mr. Young and Mrs. McRae as our Senior advisors. Robert Carter was elected president and we began working on the many tasks that were before us. During our Senior year we had an addition of eight rooms, a lobby and a well-equipped Art Department. We were very happy to welcome for the first time a Junior High to our school It has been a great pleasure to publish the school annual. Let's hope everyone will enjoy and treasure it in the years to come. We will forever be grateful for the privilege ot .attending this school and for the guidance and encouragement of our par- ents and teachers. When we receive our diplomas, the history of our class as a group ends, and each member will write his own history by his future deeds.
