FCJREUUFID President Roosevelt in an inaugural statement said, nOur troubles will not be over tomorrow, but we are on our way and headed in the right directionn. Such was the case when September l9b6 found the members of the class of '50 at Washington High School trying to adjust themselves to the newness of their first year in high school, while the world, torn by war, was trying to make new adjustments socially, economically and financially. Now, that we are about to part, 'parting is such sweet sorrown. It brings back the many happy occasions that we have witnessed while students at this, our Alma Mater. It brings once again to our minds the joys and sorrows that we have known and shared together. We have come a long way, over a rough road, many times discouraged and forlorn. When the day would seem darkest, a ray of hope, to obtain our goal, would shine through re- minding us that the victory is given only to those who endure. We regret leaving you whom we have learned to love, regret the thought of not being able to help you in a more direct manner. No, we can never forget the acquaintances we have made, neither can we regret ever having been one of you. We have had our joys and sorrows, we have had our trials and tribula- tions. We have made our contribution, and now we must move on and blaze newer trails. It has been out privilege to have had a share in the life and growth of our dear school. As graduates, we are already of the past, but as Alumnae, we are still very much a part of it, still eager to be cooperative in its progress and development. Inevitably, much of what we have learned will slip from our minds, but some things are unforgettable. The grandness and simplicity of the place, the utter fineness of the school's ideals and purposes, the inspiration given to us by every member of the Faculty--these will never leave our minds and hearts. We cannot express our appreciation to the WYearbook Staffn, and to all who took a part in making this, the THIRD EDITION of the PIONEER, a success We owe much to our advisors, Mrs. W. F. Perkins and Mr. E. Powell for services rendered, to Mrs. I. H. Duncan and Mr. S. F. Young of the Com- mercial Education Department for their unlimited services, to Alfred E. Griggs for the art work which greatly enhances the beauty of the pagesgand to all who aided in the financial support of the publication. We, the Seniors, who are about to go forth, pause, at this time, to gather up some of the remnants of the past to carry with us into the future We hope that those who share these remnants with us will try to remember this class as being one that tried to spread sunshine and friendliness to all whom we came in contact with and that we tried to nhead in the right directionn. fbi Aww ohn D.
