This great learning institution has en- abled students to attend places of higher education anywhere in the U. S. A. It has produced many educa- tional, political, social and economical successes that will forever be embed- ded in the past and future of B. T. W. Having been built in perilous times, B. T. MISS LION For 1982, the Lion staff began what we hope will become an annual tradition at BTW, selection of the ideal boy and girl from among the senior class. These are the two students who best exemplify those qualities which we at Washington hold in highest regard. The Lioti staff nominated 10 boys and 10 girls on the basis of character, scholar- ship, spirit, and appearance. These students were then presented to the senior class who voted for their ideals. We now present to you the best-kept secret of the year, Mr. Miss Lion for 1982, Kevin Ross and Cvnthia Holmes. They are the overall Stars of BTW in our eyes. The following couples round out the top five: 1st runners-up Kenneth Jones and Angela Atkins; 2rid runners-up Reginald Banks and Vonda Smith; 3rd runners-up David Pipkin and LaTonya Johnson; 4th runners-up Kevin Turner and Karen Anderson. i Features 7 V . 1 i f 1 [• W i r tj U r , «!- i ii k 1 -T ■■t- - v - r-- t Features 9 Features 10 HOMECOMING The 1981 Homecoming of B. T. Washington left us starstruck. Our football team beat the stars out of Car- roll High with a score of 21-20 in a thrill-filled con- test. Our homecoming not only consisted of victory, but also beauty. Miss Karen Coleman served as Queen. Her court was made up of Senior Princesses, Angela Phillips and Gloria Phillips; Junior Princess, Vanessa Alford; Sophomore Princess, Marvette Pip- kins; and Freshman Princess, Lisa Randle. Chosen as Football Sweetheart was senior Donna Riptoe. Yes Lions, we can certainly say our homecoming was a night to remember. i I LMtUR ' S 1 1 Seniors 12 5 ' t. 4, - ilS HOLD ON TO yrf, ° i Seniors 13 Senior Favorites The senior favorites for the class of 1982 of BTW are the students their peers elected as the chosen stars of their class: (1) The most handsome boy, Frederick James, and the prettiest, Anita Holmes, flaunt their good looks in Command Performance. Beginning with 5,Sc lunches with smaller portmns, we moved on to a football play- ers ' strike during an 0-5 district season, a broken water main, an overdramati ed basketball skir- mish, and last (so far) but not least, an extended absence of our principal due to illness. On top of all this, 1982 was our year for a 10-vear evalua- tion. Seldom would you expect to find all these events happening in one year An outsider might term this ear bunk . Quite the contrary! During our lousy football season, we had the best pep ral- lies ever. As for the spread of defeatism, our bas- ketball team is at this time in the playoffs on the wav to STATE . Just because the chips are down, we don ' t go down with them. Even though this year did not bring overwhelming victories, we as a whole looked to tomorrow. We lost neither faith nor pride in our school.
