Miss Hornet nominees, for instance. If a white girl had won Miss Hornet there would be trouble, or so was the rumor. But why? Why would it be so bad having a white queen of this school? Would she really spoil the tradition of being an all black school? But remember, BTW isn't an all black school. l9rt Christmastime: A time of cheer and goodwill. We celebrated at school by having a large Christmas tree invading the front hall. Decorated with Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkas, every religion was included in the spirit. Two things contributed to diminish our spirits, though. One was that our vacation only extended as far as the 2nd of January, causing us to return for the tail end of a week. The other, occuring right before vacation started, was the summons to an all-black assembly. The original purpose of this assembly may not have been intended as harmful, but obviously the results were. lt seemed to cause tension and resentment between races, since after vacation, this resentment and tension resulted in strained black-white relations, and graffiti onthe bathroom walls, which portrayed both races' opinions on whose school it was. 1 9232 l 9
