In it you will find the amusements, honors, victories, defeats, and pathos of a school with growing pains. Under the patient guidance of Mrs. Middaugh and Mr. Venturella, we have attempted to portray faithfully the epoch of a school year, one which we think will never be equaled. Thank you, Mrs. Middaugh and Mr. Venturella, and good luck to the class of 1962. Kayettes, the largest girl's club in Bonner High, is basically a service organization. Some of its services were holiday programs for the school, Christmas gifts for orphans, and collections for CARE. The major activity of the past year’s Kayettes was a girls' football game which saw the Kayettes and the Boltonettes, coached by seniors Ray Enloe and Arthur Bolton, with one illegal touchdown apiece at the final gun. At the half of the riotous game, popular senior Chuck Shepherd was crowned King. Also the Kayettes had fun with their Survival Party after the first six weeks. The Kayettes and the Hi-Y worked together on several projects. -64- Ptttbrdassmen KAYETTES--FIRST ROW: M. Chamberlain, J. Hogan, K. Briscoe, B. Nyman, K. Kahle, L. Kindred, V. Fris- bie, S, Fulks, S. The Pep Club, 118 girls strong the past year, supported by Bonner's Braves by its presence at games, by yelling, and by dress; it promoted school spirit with numerous pep rallies and assemblies. The Club’s money-making projects included selling mum- corsages at the Homecoming football game and giving the Holly Daze (Christmas Dance). The main project of the Pep Club was a major revision of the Club’s constitution; this clarified many rules and regulations and established a solid working foundation for future years. Homecoming Queen Connie Stewart was the Pep Club's candidate for that honor, and Leslie Betancourt, Pep Club secretary, was Christmas Queen. The work and en- thusiasm of its members earned the 1961-1962 Pep Club much praise as one of the finest Pep Clubs in the area. -71- Step, QJLub ‘ILpjje’iclaAAmeti PEP CLUB--FIRST ROW: B. Papa, B. Pre-season EKL Championship picks, the harriers seemed to be the first Bonner team strong enough to win this elusive honor. The Braves defeated the defending Champions in their first meet, but went on to suffer at the hands of younger, faster teams of the EKL. Hanidcapped by shinsplints, and twisted ankles, the runners felt their improvements come hard in a season shortened by bad weather and a new league ruling. By meets held on its own new course in Lions City Park (considered the roughest in the league) the team forced itself into contention, within easy striking distance of the currently top club. The EKL League Meet, however, was the biggest upset in the league's history and Bonner Springs captured only fourth (although John Papineau set a league record - 10:06). -93- GOLF TEAM--ROW ONE: K.
