The faculty here at Bonita Vista High could only advise, so the difficult job of molding Bonita Vista into a great school was left in the hands of the student body. During the beginning of the year, every- thing at BV was new and different. How- ever, in just a few weeks, students had grown accustomed to school routine here at Bonita Vista. The Spirit of '67 was quick to start, and continued throughout the year. Our everyday school activities helped to increase our loyalty toward BVHS. Games, assemblies, dances, and other special activities all contributed to the success of our school. However, our suc- cess was not easily come by, but required a great deal of time and effort before it became a reality. Speciality groups such as the bands. glee clubs, drill team, maiorettes, and cheerleaders all surmounted great difficul- ties before they actually became organized groups. Life at Bonita Vista was not all work and worry, however. Activities such as the Baronial Ball, Sports Night, Crazy Hat Day, Color Day, and Spirit Week all added to the fun and excitement here. The student life section is filled with the pleasant memories and recollections of all BV students. Some of the most prominent include the elated happiness when we defeated Hilltop in a football game, the tension during overtime in the llllar Vista versus BVHS basketball game, the excitement during our first Sports Night, the respect when gold-medal win- ner, Mr. Billy Mills, spoke at our school, the suspense when our ASB officers were elected, the pride when we first raised our victory flag, and the anticipation when our first Football Queen was chosen. These emotions helped to unite students at Bonita Vista. As our school developed through the enthusiasm and hard work of the student body, the Spirit of '67 also grew. This spirit which led BVHS through the year inspired all Barons. Something as intang- ible as this can not be recorded on the pages of a yearbook. Instead, the student life section has captured the students. activities, and groups which have molded Bonita Vista High School and the Spirit of '67.

Pos- ters, signs, and witty slogans sur- rounded Barons as aspirants for offices campaigned for their posi- tions. The Barons initiated another lively tradition in the form of a Crazy Hat Day. From the weird and colorful assortment of head gear, a creation by E. Kaupplia was chosen as most original. 3 W9 Q N R! JANUARY yt erry-covered faces emerged fbi om the pie-eating contest held I at an after-dance during Spirit LX! Week. Dampened spirits were ex- pected after the loss to Hilltop that night but the mighty Barons , came through with their usual en- thusiasm and made it a success. Also during the month of Janu- ary was the whale hunt on Mis- sion Bay, sponsored by the BVHS science classes. FEBRUARY The short month of February witnessed many delighted viewers attending the faculty versus lV game. The audience grew tense as the fast moving game got un- der way. Also during Sports Night, the G.A.A. defeated the Girls' League while all the girls scurried around in boxing gloves. BVHS had start- ed another tradition with Sports Night. APRIL Accompanied by the arrival of Spring was a new chance for stu- dents to make the most of their opportunities before the closing of another school year. Clash- Day was filled with an array of colors and prints, which left no doubt that this day was correctly named. Slave Day was another fun-filled day in April. The Sock Hop was sponsored by the EX- CALIBUR staff. MAY Coming with the appearance of sunny skies above Bonita Vista was a more relaxed classroom at- mosphere. During the month of May, students and teachers both seemed to benefit from more in- formal discussions held during class. Mother's Day was the occasion which rated a fashion show given by the Girls' League and the homemaking class.
