The girls were in charge of the football rallies. They did a super job of cheering at the football games. Rally sponsored the first dance and the team dinners. Our Varsity Songleaders did a super job this year. They were busy working on new routines for the rallies. They came up with some original ideas and added a lot of spirit and entertainment to the rallies. At the games they were an asset to raise spirit in the stands. Keeping In Step With The Times Our 1977-78 marching band was under the direction of Annamarie Hobo, drum major. Along with the drill team, captain Teri Wolf and co-captains Cathy Albert and Lisa McCook did a fine job representing our school in parades and half-time perform- ances. The bannerettes with captain Su ie Studlcy and flag squad under the direction of Laura Davis performed with the band and drill team and added to the glamour. To- gether these groups worked hard, and dedicated themselves to the excellent perform- ances. A Welcome Break In The Day Assemblies were very good this year. We were lucky to have the gas company, the band, and chamber singers present assemblies. We also had a rock group which performed for the student body at lunch. 1. I The 1977-78 A.S.B. officers have been busy since last year, beginning with a retreat for class and club executives, held at Big Bear. The prima- ry function of the A.S.B. officers is to monitor money; it ' s more of a governing group than a service group. The A.S.B. also plans the assem- blies and activities we have for the dead spots in the school year, like after football and in the spring. High spirited A.S.B. President, Bobby Viduare, kept things moving while Vice-Presi- dent, Tim Malone, kept Bobby moving. Other officers are; Kim Pence, Secretary; Kathy Grouf, Treasurer; Mike Sly, Sec. of Athletics; Mary Boyd, Sec. of Assemblies; Sue Tcter. Chief Jus- tice; Javier Sanchez, Sec. of Campus Problems; Eileen Coleman, Sec of Pep; Bonnie Briones, Historian; To ri Caplan, Sec. of Clubs. I 1. A.S.B. discussing important business. 2. They pulled together to make the year successful. The Junior Class Officers sponsored many activities, such as the Homecoming Dance, to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom. The Sophomore and Freshmen Class Officers were busy with varied activities. All the class officers did outstanding jobs and exhibited good leadership. 1. The Princesses Sherry Branam, Renee Nething, Scherrei Collins, Tori Caplan and Honorary Princess Doreen Sabandar, were happy just to have been selected to the court. After the game was over, couples proceded to the dance which was held in the gym. Music was provided by Lester . All in all, it was an exciting night. y 1. 1977 Homecoming Court. 2. Halloween Madness This year was no excep- tion to Bonita ' s usual Hal- loween madness. The vari- ety of costumes reflected the wild imagination of both the students and facul- ty. The lunch-time activi- ties were as much fun for the spectators as they were for the participants. The winners of the face draw- ing, popcorn ball eating, and apple bobbing contests, as well as the team relay, were cheered on to victory by an enthusiastic crowd of onlookers. Fascinating Rhythm Bonita ' s Concert Band presented the annual Christ- mas Concert for the student body. They have also been busy with fund-raising events for a projected trip to Holland this summer. They were given the honor of marching in the San Dimas Christmas Parade as the Grand Marshall Band. The outstanding performers in Concert Band section are Enten Eller. Kevin Fagerburg, Steve Fay, and Bill Rowe. To aid in the fund raisin g, the Jazz Band has been playing at community dances, one of which was at the Newport Sheriton Hotel. They have already participated in many jazz festivals, and hope to be invited to the Reno and Monterey jazz festivals. The outstanding jazz musi- cians are Matt Snyder at the piano, Jon Hypes on the bass, Steve Lawerence and Eliott Schaffer on the drums. Randy Ingalls on guitar, and Bill Rowe in the horn section. Mr. Snyder, the Band ' s director, feels they ' ve had a potientially good year. 1. Bonita ' s Concert Band plays at the Christmas Concert. 2. Saxsa- tional!!! 3. There ' s No Business Like Show Business Under the new direction of Mrs. Jackie Wat- son, this was the first year Bonita ' s drama de- partment has put on two musicals, in addition to two dramatic plays. They also met their goal of getting stage experience for a greater number of people. In the fall the drama and vocal departments teamed up to put on a collage — of scenes from various musicals and plays — entitled, Our Sin- gular Sensation. In December they presented Bad Seed. Perhaps the best performance of the year was Bonita ' s production of Hello Dolly in April. 1. I can hear the music. 2. If I told you once, I told you a million times. 3. Having a new director was quite an experience; even after two years and two directors, the vocal groups once again had to break in still another director. The vocal groups had an exceptionally busy singing season. Some outstanding highlights were the Christmas concert at La Verne Church of the Brethren, performances at Knotts Berry Farm and the West Covina Fashion Plaza, and participating in the Candlelight procession at Disneyland. We also learned to en- joy each other ' s company on and off the field and to enjoy the game for just the game. I ■i- Producing Memories I Presenting Bonita High School to the students through photography, art and words was the job of our faithful yearbook staff. Under the direction of Ken Erickson and editor Maria D ' Aquila, the staff showed intelligence and organization in the planning of the yearbook. Through the overseeing of Mr. Asim and editor Scott Meyers, the newspaper staff also showed that they could put out a good newspaper. They could always be counted on for telling us what was going on around the school. 1. Newspaper staff reveals their real self. 2. Whatever you say, Mr. Erickson. 3. Typical da y in Yearbook. 4. Gangsters on our newspaper staff? K 9 fy ' A M Making Champions t I It ' s so nice to walk into the locker room. When you ' re about two feet outside the door, that familiar smell hits you. As you go to your locker you realize that today is the day that you wore the underwear with the holes in them. It ' s a rough life. You have to get dressed with your back against the lockers. You also forgot your tennis shoes. It figures that it ' s a hot day and you have to stand on your numbers on the hot asphalt while your teacher takes roll. Why does it seem that she takes longer today? After a typical day like this, how can it be that you leave the locker room everyday with another good memory? 1. Nina Barrutt and Pain Ravcnkamp play lifeguard. 2. Don ' t fall. Lisa Decker! 3. Tim Hawkinson and David Autry play a game of tennis. 4. Boys P.E. play a game of volleyball. 5. It has been a fantastic year with lots of everlasting memories. I would like to express my sincerest thanks to the 1977-78 Echoe ' s Yearbook Staff for their out- standing job. All of their hard work paid off in making the yearbook a success. Many thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Bud Giboney and their staff for giving us that little extra time and attention to help meet our deadlines, and for pro- cessing our film quickly. Mr. and Mrs. Giboney and their staff wish to congratulate the Class of 78 and express the best of luck in the future. Mr. John Thomas has been a fantastic yearbook representative. He contributed his knowledge in yearbooking which helped the staff, and supplied us with all necessary materials to construct a great book. Most of all, thanks to Mr. Ken Erickson for his time and patience. He kept the staff moving and was always there when we needed him. He is a terrific advisor and a super person. I hope all the students here at Bonita have a great summer and have had a memorable school year. May this yearbook help those memories stay alive.
