They were as follows: senior Robin Hayden (head) and juniors, Debbie Sandoval, Ellie Thompson, Lori Swank, Sara Gamble and Sue Teter. The girls spent a lot of time on activities such as rallies, dinners, and sponsor- ing dances to improve school spirit. Mrs. Brennecke, their advisor, kept the girls in line with a sturdy hand. In all the girls had an exciting year and their spirit was, Sky-High ! 18 Varsity Song rue Oo . our My girl will be working on her pom poms now and she ' ll be yelling tonight . Songleaders: Lori Blackwell, Vickie Fessler, Joni Kershaw (seniors); Bonnie Briones, Kim Kelly and Julie Odgen (juniors); worked their green and white pom poms at all rallies and games . Making up new routines and developing new ideas for the rallies kept the girls busy during summer and after school . The girls had a fun year and want to remind you: Be true to your school ... let youi colors fly ! !!!!!!!! Deanne Baur and Dannelle Knight were our jolly mascots this year. Their purpose was of course to help cheer, and that they did; along with bugging the drill team at half-time, and making pests of themselves to the hurt players. But Deanne and Dannell made a good team and kept us laughing! (Even when it wasn ' t funny) ' 3o- ' %vX _ i Varsity Song 19 For the first time ever BHS had two separate rally squads! One for football and one for basketball , The idea was not met with too many cheers, because alot of money would be put out for one semester. But the girls soon found out that the idea would work. The 1976-77 basketball cheerleaders were-Cathy Albert, Eileen Coleman, Maria D ' Aquila, Kay Hedrick, Iris Pacheo, and Maryann Sanford. (All juniors) The girls had fun and loved the new experience, they did a great job cheering for our team. Linda Jackson the 1976-77 Rally head has done an excellent job. She must coordinate all rallies, practices, try-outs and the hardest job of all , keeping the girls happy. She had been involved in cheer for two years so she was not without experience. Linda loves the excite- ment of cheering in front of a crowd and she will always treasure the friendships she has made. New Edition 1 .,:v ; 20 Basketball Cheer To Rally Squad Basketball Cheer 21 jijK Wb ly Through alot of games filled with tears and laughter the Junior Varsity and Freshman Cheerleaders urged their teams on. The J.V, cheerleaders, Barbara Brazeau, Jane Hertz, Barbara Perez and Wendy Sarter did an ex- cellent job this year at rallies and at their games. The freshman girls got off to a good start; they quick- ly organized themselves and lent support to their team. They were: Laurie Gonzales, Sue Skeen and Kelly Sarter, All these girls, although one or two steps down from varsity were always cheering and participating with en- thusiasm and smiles. Jr and Frosh Cheer 23 And The Beat Goes On 24 Band, Drill Left-Right-Left, Company Halt, Tweet-Tweet Under the marching commands of Drum Major Dennis Dudley, the Marching Band and Drill showed their colors. Dennis Dudley took charge of the band this year, proving time and time again his excellent music ability and leadership qualities! Together the band and drill led the half-time shows, entered competitions and marched in a number of parades with the Bannerettes leading the way! The Captain was Belinda Brown. Flag Twirlers were added this year, and they twirled their flags in complicated routines at the games and rallies. The Captain was Barbara Escondon. Thanks must be given to Micci Clark 1976-77 captain of Drillteam. Her hard work paid off in good performances . While helping each other gain experience, they focused their attention on ftind raising and sponsoring dances. Although they now have chorus parts, in a few yea rs they will be in leading roles. Sophomore and Freshman Officers 73 76 Arts, Assemblies Eve X students at Bonita were blessed with two fine productions from their drama department: The Taming Of The Shrew , and The Invention . The Taming of The Shrew , written by William Shakespeare, was one of the most difficult productions for the actors, yet one of the most rewarding for the audience. The atmosphere created, one of the age of chivalry, was most helpful in allowing the audience to feel that they were indeed in England and enjoying the play as it was presented in the time of Shakespeare. The Invention was a successful attempt to bring the talents of Bonita ' s actors to the children of the community. The play was directed by one of the school ' s finest actresses. Colleen Schultz. Judging by the children ' s reaction after the show, it was a most prosperous venture. Assemblies E Vocalization Variety The Chamber Singers once again managed to have another successful year. Under the guidance of Roger Winter, the group again presented the high-caliber performances with which they have been long associated. Presentations for such groups as the La Verne Rotary Club have retained the vocal superbness this year that is present every year at Bonita. yC I u Bonita Bands Booming The Concert Band and Stage Band, once again under the direction of Robin Snyder, have tuned their way into the harmony of Bonita High and the local community. This year they performed in America On Parade at Disneyland, an honor given to only the best of bands; we at Bonita indeed have the best. f rii. Assemblies Events 79 kv f I ' lpiijiit ' iWMf - ' Films Flinging The few assemblies presented this year were welcomed reliefs from the constant work of school. The Three Faces Of Bonita and The Diary Of Miss Jane Pittman wore both excellent audio-visual presentations; also worthy of recognition was a presentation by the L.A. Dance Company. This assembly encouraged more students to attend the school dances, and brought originality to the dance floor at Bonita. Basketball Bumping Lunch hour this year has meant more than just time to eat lunch: the A.S.B. sponsored both an intramural volleyball tourna- ment and a two-on-two co-ed basketball tournament. All who participated in the tournaments, even the losers, found this an excellent outlet for fun and energy! vs ■' ' -lies Events 81 f ♦ Ir . . Later in the evening a dance brought the events to a fitting close. Countries Cultures Argentina, Canada, Chile, and other countries peace- fully invaded Bonita High on International Day. Students from these countries, under the direction of the Foreign Ex change Club, willfully related to our students and faculty the aspects of their cultures . Sanford Coggins, Mark Maloney, and Keith Brandt made it on offense and Danny Thompson for defense. Other players having a good season were Mark Kresch, and Gary Marchese on offense and Larry Larrabee on defense.
