OZEWO Taking their place in the annals of Bonita, the memories recalled by the follow- ing pages review another great year in our schools history. They make our convictions stronger than ever, that we have known the best in school spirit, scholarship, athletics, and social life. lt is our hope, in leaving these doors, that these traditions will be cherished and guarded through the future years. 'mw...,,,h, Dulamfam To Mr. Howard Smith who has contributed twenty-eight years of outstanding service to his co-workers, and to the students of Bonita High School, we, the staff of the 1952 Echoes, wish to express our most sincere gratitude and praise with this dedica- tion. In your many wonderful years as a teacher you have been a counsel and a true friend to all who have come to you seeking help and guidance. Your true devotion to our high school will always be an inspiration. R E Walker J. I. Superintendent Principal mamabcafion Standing high on the ladder of progress are the achievements of the Bonita Administration. Under their guidance and council we gain the greatest possible amount of knowledge. While they are the first to recevie criticism, and usu- ally the last to receive praise, they have a never ending desire to see all Bonita students enioy a wide curriculum, balanced with a strong desire to promote better living. is Q'. -0-- QQ, ui J J if N '99 3 , .- 'E il 3? The other officers were: Vincent Tafolla as Vice President, Ann Parker as Secretary, and Kay Brownberger as Treasurer. A meeting was held every two weeks in the Student Union to discuss and solve school problems. A group of four people were elected to plan the assemblies for the coming year. On November 21, 1951, the Second Tri-County Dance was held in the Pomona College Student Union. This year it was decided to elect a Queen from the host school, which was Citrus, and a Princess from each of the other five schools in the league. Anita White was elected to represent Bonita at this dance. 'lst Row V. Stone, L. Lathrop, K. Brownsberger, V. Tafolla, A. Parker, G. Manlove, A. White, D. Wickert. 2nd Row: Mr. Deal, P. Dick Wickert Peggy Berg President Vice President Jim Strombotne Anita White Secreta ry Treasurer Way back in 1940, when elementary teachers were first blessed with the already distinguished class of 1952, they could see the relieved faces of the high school teachers as this class passes, with question, through the gataeway to the world, water pistols and all. In all seriousness, as this class started its eventful iourney up the pathway to graduation as the fresh- men class of 48-49, they elected such capable leaders as Jon Sapp, President, and Buster Benner, Vice President. Then as Sophomores they took from their wide selecfion of possibilities, Gordy Duvall, Presi- dent, and Ann Parker, Vice President. When they ioined the ranks of upper classmen in 1950, they really began to get in the swing of things. After sponsoring a profitable Sock Hop and put on the entertaining Junior Play titled Going Places, they finished up a great year with one of the best Junior-Senior Proms Bonita has had. On entering their final lap at Bonita they elected Dick Wickert as Pres., Peggy Berg, Vice Pres., Jim Strombotne, Sec., Anita White, Student Council Rep. They finished their historic 4 years by sponsoring a Leap Year Dance, with the boys doing the work. After the Dance it seemed that they needed a rest, so on ditch day they headed for places unknown. On May 6th and 7th the Seniors again presented another play titled June Graduate, with the proceeds being given to the Student Body as a gift from the Senior Class. ii HELAN MAE ACORD Y-Teen . . . During the year the class worked hard under the supervision of Mr. Perkins, Miss Oberle, .and Mr. Van Ginkle to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom. This money was raised by giving bake sales, selling mistletoe, sponsoring several dances, holding a rummage sale, and presenting the iunior class play. Bonita was host for Junior Career Day in which Citrus, Puente, and Claremont were our guests. The iuniors are looking forward to a successful year as seniors and they hope to have one of Bonita's largest graduating classes. .4 lszetsiiiw M Y' fix, hflixfglfg iff . ,frf 'f f 5 Q .sm Eg. 12 ,..-.4 QQ' Bottom Row-D. Coaches Joe Cervel and Henry Van Ginkel were very pleased, as they felt the Bearcats showed they still play hard, aggressive football, and were a constant threat to all opponents. Citrus proved to be the Bearcats' toughest game. Winning this game would have meant a co-championship with Puente and Citrus. The Bearcats came within six inches of winning this game, when they drove down to Citrus' one yard line. A quarter-back sneak brought the ball up within a half a foot of the goal line. Before the team could get another play in motion, the gun sounded ending the half. The rest of the game was very even. Both teams scored twice in the last half.
