They were led by seven returning Ietterwomen, including four seasoned veter- ans-Bev Schmitz, Mary Haus- mann, Betty Sondgeroth, and Sherri Baker. The team's offen- sive average was 27.9 and the defense gave up 38.3 per game. A highlight of the season was winning the Gregory County Tournament. The girls defeated Fairfax in the first round and then upset highly regarded Burke in the championship game to remain the only Greg- ory County Tournament Cham- pions in the two years it has been held. The B team, coached by Duane Holub, worked to a 6-8 record. Their experience will provide able assistance in years ahead. The parade was led by the Color Guard and Parade Marshall, Herman Scho- chenmaier. A total of 36 entries entered the parade. The Sophomores with i'Shake, Rattle, and Roll the Wildcats? placed first on their float entry. Second place went ot the Seniors with ULeader of the Pack . Steppin to Victory , the theme of the Freshmen, was the third place winner. In the evening, the Bonesteel Tigers met the Tripp Wildcats. The Wildcats defeated the Tigers 38-6. The teams consisted of 23 boys and 17 girls. During the season, 8 records were broken. Gregg Schochenmaier broke the old 100 yard dash record time of 10.2 with his new time of 10.1. The girls broke the remaining seven. Gaile Fode, a Freshman, now holds the new discus record with a distance of 103'10 . Peggy Cozad set a new high jump record of 4'11 . Laurie Hausmann, Betty Sondgeroth, Kris Hoar, and Sheri Baker broke the Medley and 880 yd. Relay records with new times of 159.4 and 153.7, respectively. Kris Hoar set a new record of 15'4 in long jump. A new mile-run record of 6:15.7 was set by Lori Stuckers. Judy Krueger, Jackie Koenig, Diane Bailey, and Lori Stuckers set a new record in the 2-mile relay with a time of 11:15. Of the 23 boys, 2 qualified for state: Gregg Schochenmaier in the 100 yard dash, 220 yard dash, and the low hurdles. Cliff Marts qualihed in the discus. Out of the 17 girls, 6 qualiied for the state meet: Laurie Hausmann in the 880, and 440 yard relays, Betty Sondgeroth in the 880, and 440 yard relays, Kris Hoar in the 880, and 440 yard relays, and long jump, Sheri Baker in the 440 yard dash, and the 440, and 880 yard relays, Peggy Cozad in the high jump, and Gaile Fode in the discus.
