EVOLUTION OF BASKLTBALL nListen, my childr and you shall hear a tory of sorts that is very queer Listen my children, one and all, to the evolution of Basketball Way back in the beginn ng ages of man, before our brains began to expand, an ape by the name f Horace Brown was cllmbing to bring a coconut down As he climb ed up and up the tree, on the tip top branch he chanced to see a cocorut mammoth and huge in size, round as a ball, he grabbed the prlze and qulckly sliding down to the ground chatters to call h1s frlends around They flocked around all except one, Old John Smith refused to come by swnnglng high in a grape vine loop he sang in glee, nBoop, boop, a doo Hor ce was mad as monkey could be, he he thru' the loop, down came John in the midst of the group They shouted out, the group as a whoe, NHe's knocked for a goal a goaln and that, my dears, was hfw the game grew The goal was the hoop to throw the ball through The monkeys who yelled as their tails uncurled were the very first rooters in the whole wide world Well, every one then took turns and threw the ball through the loop and so practice grew Years passed on and their tails disappeared and the space became wider between the ears The fur was gone so hides were worn from morn to night and ni ht to morn Well, Horace Brown, as his ancestors had done, loved to thro goals out in the sun One day as he practiced with a nice stone ball, John Smith came over on an unfrienlly call He tried to keep Horace from hitting the goal and so many times Horace missed the hole The two were the first forward and guard Finally John began guard ing too hard He pulled away Horace's leopard skin and ran away wust as fast as s1n Horace looked, and down towards his knees there he stood 1n his B V D's Then he said, nMy skins, I don't need ' m In B V D's I've much more freedom ' On he played, he really looked cute, and that was the very flrst basketball suit Generatlons passed and man progressed from stone to metal for metal was best A metal loop replaced the grape vine, this made a goal that was certainly fine So many barbarians wanted to play Two goals were put up on facing each way Now Horace Brown took the goal to the east, and John Smith's gang didn't mind ln the least, for they really thought the goal that was best was the very fine one facing the west One dey John's gang couldn't find their ball so they grab bed up Horace's Now wasn't that gall' From west goal to east, east goal to west, that ball traveled Vell, I'l1 be blessed, if that wasn't re lly the first flght, fight boys fight U The old chief smiled, nThat is all right I'm only here facing re- alities Keeplng these boys from any fatalities U He whistled shrill and magestically stole out on the court in true referee mode Well, years passed on, they made some rules barring out headlocks toe holds and duels Then they began to limit the t1me and char ed each rooter a nickel or dime and so the game was commercialized before its interest we realized Now that my dear, is the tale so tall of the evolution of basketball T 4- en, .
