C74 UDECQCZE 1976 was a spectacular year in the history of the United States of America. We celebrated our nation's 200th birthday with festivals, parades, fireworks displays, lines of tall sailing ships, fife and drum corps marching to the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy , Bicentennial dinners and picnics, and just about anything and everything else we could think of to show the world how proud we are to be Americans. Of course, there were other important events that oc- curred in 1976, and one in par- ticular has had a lasting effect on thousands of people who live in Clark County. On Sun- day, June 6, 1976, at 1:30 p.m., Cornerstone Ceremonies took place for Bonanza High School. As stated in the program that was presented to those who at- tended, the ceremonies were held in accord with the customs of the Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Nevada. Members of the Grand Lodge convened at the Masonic Temple at 11:00 a.m and marched to the corner- stone site at1:15 p.m. with the Legion of Honor Color Guard. The Grand Master, Mr. Earl A. Evans, Jr., approached the platform. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was led by Grand Marshal Robert McDonald, who also read the Proclamation. Mr. Evans, President of the Clark County School District Board of School Trustees, introduced special guests, delivered Remarks , and made the re- quest to place the cor- nerstone. Mr. Evans, Dr. L. Scott Chalfant, Dr. Kenny C. Guinn, the architect, and the building contractor par- ticipated in the Spreading of Mortar ceremony. Scripture reading by Robert J. Fox, ora- tion by Willie M. Waldrip, and prayer and the benediction led by Mr. Fox followed. The aud- ience remained seated until members of the Grand Lodge had retired. Stated Dr. Willa Matthews, who attended the ceremony: 'Alt was a solemn and inspiring ceremony that made us feel good to be there at 'The Beginning'. 48 Bonanza High School Organizations
