CURRE T EVENTS While BHS students were hard at work in classrooms during the school year of 1985-86, much was going on in the outside world. Even before the school year, in the summer of 1985, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and London, England hosts to a spectacular musical event. Live Aid raised over 70 Million dollars to help the famine problem in Africa. But, unfortunately, the bad outweighed the good by far this year in the news. Our students saw m catastrophes, including terrorist activities and commercial plane crashes, as well as private plane crashes, as was the case in the death of singer Rick Nelson. When our U,S, Navy ships, fortunately of Sidra, Libya became a irked and opened tire on ships, consequently missing quite a few of their targets. We, in turn, fought back. But the biggest castastrophe of all happened on the fateful day of January 28, 1986. Gregory Jarvis, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnick, Dick Scobee, Michael Smith, and Christa McAuliffe, who was a teacher, all died with dignity, on a mission for their country. Bonanza High School students felt for the astronauts and their families, so we decided to dedicate a memorial forthe astronauts, in their memory. ln front of the school, on the north side, are seven trees and a huge pla- que, dedicated to the astronauts. ln sports this year, the Chicago Bears dominated the NFL and went on to multilate the New England Patriots in the Superbowl. Kansas City won the World Series in the fall of 1985. The NCAA cham- pion was the team of Louisville. Our own U.N.L.V. Runnin' Rebels basketball team made it in the Top 10 poll of the NCAA.
