The Goal to Win! Bonanza's Varsity Soccer Team rose to a great first part of the season, starting out with a 7-O record until meeting the Gaels of Gorman, who beat them 2-0. They didn't let that loss discourage themg they came right back and beat Clark, The rest of Varsity's season was tough, they lost only two more games, finishing the season with an 11-3 record. After ending a great season, Varsity went to the zone tournament where they made the final four. Coach Phil Lawton said, Steve Deitrich was the best Sweeper I have had in five years. Also he noted that, Steve Latham and Vince McCafferty were great tributes to the team. Most of us forgot what was probably the most important position on the team: the goalkeeper. Thanks to the great goalkeep- ing of Erik Stepaniak and Danny Edwards, Bonanza's varsity was sift! The Goal to Win! In addition to team honors, the Bengals had four players selected for Ati Con- ference honors. Paul and Andy Miramontes were selected for the Last Vegas Review J - Journal All- Conference Team. Vince McCafferty was selected by the Coaches' All-Conference team and Jeff Deitrich was selected by both the Coaches and the Fi.J. On the younger side of soccer, the J.V. team started out badly with a loss to Fian- cho in their opening game of the season, but they bounced right back with seven straight victories. Their only other loss was to Clark. The superb field playing of Jay Day, Mike Pagliuca, Joe Whitaker, and the great goalkeeping of Gabe Dahistrom, Jeremy Angelo, and Jim Davis helped the J.V. team end in an 11-3-1 winning season. The soccer teams ob- viously had the goal to win! 112 Soccer I Sports l Showing his great kicking 1 Cliff Cihak amazes students a Winter Sports assembly.
