♦ Theme ♦ COTTON ’ Long Live King Cotton!” has been the ery of his loyal subjects since he first unfurled over Louisiana the snowy banner that glorified its fields with fleecy whitness. The powerful king proved to be the realization of their hopes and worthy of the noble title conferred upon him for he brought prosperity and led them in the path of progress. But subjects are fickle and when a possible ruler, alluring Oueen Silk, compelled allegiance, there were mutterings of Down with the King!” Then as Prince Rayon and his syn- copated regime approached, the undermining of the royal throne beaan in earnest, and the support of King Cotton was considerably weakened. Recently a campaign has begun to reinstate the once- niightv monarch. For to the revolutionists there has been born the realization that from his fibre come their clothing and from his seed, food necessary to man. beast, and soil. They perceive now that he is friend of the poor, and luxury of the rich: that his every tiny fiber, blossom, or seed, means a step nearer sturdy prosperity. So cotton fairs, cotton festivals, cotton weeks, and cotton themes have been sponsored, and to these worthy endeavors this hook, the Bruin, is added. To the glory of King Cotton: may he rule forever.
