The public is not aware of the prep- arations that go into the staging, be it in the arena or in the school. As the Matador is introduced into the Redoneo Cschool of bullfightingj as a Muchacho Cbeginnerb, so the student is introduced to Bolsa as a freshman. The Muchacho learns from his Apoderado fteachers-managersy as we, the students learn from our faculty. As the Muchacho progresses to the Novellero stage Capprentice bull- fi hterj, we advance to be sophomores, then on to the llllll Woung lliil hiuil.l.figh,f,erJ as we progress to be juniors. When a fighter reaches his zenith, he is an El Espadero 1Top Bullfighterjg we are seniors. lmlilli ,,,i5. The apoderado presents the novellero with the avios de matar qsword and muletaj, banderilla Charpon type sticky, capote Ccapej, traje de luces fsuitj, and the zapatillas Cshoesj, then trains him in their use. lt is then up to the Matador to use them wisely. Our teachers have presented us with the knowledge--now we are to dec de how we will use that knowledge. The challenges of the toros Qbullsl to the Matador is much like the challenges of the future to us. Because we are ,Matadors in name and because we have conquered the illl many challenges ofthis, our first yearg we the first annual staff of the El Espadero, have chosen the bull- fight as our theme. Faced with problems such as: no darkroom, inaccurate pictures, rain, unsatis- factory equipment, illness, and inexperienced but willing workers, the staff worked desperately all year to conquer these hurdles. With a limited budget crying from exhaustion, the staff finally produced Bolsa Grande's first yearbook which Matadors will be more proud of as the years come and go. We will always recall the wonder- ful personality and the never-frowning face that went with that name. Jane was born at a location camp in Poston, Arizona, during World War ll. After attending Garden Grove and Rancho Alamitos High Schools where she participated in G.A.A. and Drill Team, Jane came to Bolsa Grande looking forward to being a member of the first graduating class. She was an excellent student academically, and rated high in citizenship. Following a secretarial major, Jane hoped to be- come a secretary some day, because of its importance. Jane enjoyed bowl- ing, dancing and having a good time with her friends. She lives in the past now, leaving her parents, one brother, two sisters, and many friends. But the mem- ory of Jane Shinoda will never be forgotten among the students of Bolsa Grande High School. It is with deep respect that the yearbook staff dedicates the senior section of El Espadero to Jane,Shinoda Frank Walker, editor 'S I N t if K .,-aw 4 , ...,,..,,,.,,,.vnH-W'- ' 4 . We, the staff, have spent many hundreds of hours in preparation for this yearbook and have decided to dedicate it to the first graduating class with the selection of a bullfight theme.
