-I f an EXECUTIVE HEAD fy When you the members of the Class of i953 left grammar school you went ON to high school but now as you graduate from Bolles you go OFF to college Going OFF to college is not iust a matter of going on with your education, it is an entirely new way of life. At college you will find that for the first time in your life you will be absolutely on your own, There will be no one to nag you, no one to tell you when to study, and, very probably, no one to encourage you. What you have learned at Bolles should put you far ahead of the average college freshman, You have learned, I hope, that in no other situation in life can democracy be so completely realized as in a boys' boarding school unless it be in a college dormitory. You have learned, if you have taken full advantage of the opportunities offered you at Bolles, to assume responsibility, to apportion your study time, and to work toward a definite goal. Bolles graduates have, in the great majority of cases, done well in college. You can uphold this record if you will apply the training you have received here. l have every confidence in your ability to go OFF to college, to enter this entirely new life without fear, to apply yourself diligently, and to be successful.
