I-IORTON-Faculty Adviser Qorewvrd This annual is your school in print-the reflection as caught in pictures and type of Bolles' twentieth year and the part that each of us played in it. For some of us this is our final Bolles Eagle which we will receive as students, for others this is the first of many. But whether as a Senior or an Underclassman of 7957-52 you read this annual, we of the staff hope that it will be cherished in years to come and will bring to mind memories of a memorable year at Bolles. Superintendent And Execuiive Head A Message from the Superintendent: You, the members of the Class of l952, have been privileged to be the ranking cadets in the largest school, from the standpoint of enrollment, in the history of Bolles. It has been your duty to guide the destinies of the underclassmen, to uphold the traditions that are Bolles, .to set an example, and to exercise your leadership in such a way that the School will be a better place for your having been a member of the cadet battalion. Just how well you have accomplished your personal obiectives, and how well you have lived up to your obligations to the student body remain to be seen. If you are successful in your college work, if you continue to be a good citizen, and if next year's corps is a better unit, then you have been a truly great class, and are deserving of every honor that can be bestow- ed upon you. ln my opinion, the Class of 1952 will go down in the History of Bolles as one of its great classes. l honestly believe that the school has benefited greatly by your having been with us. I am confident that the future holds much for you, and that the past has been one upon which you may well look with pride. l feel that you have accomplished much, and l think that the next few years will prove my contentions. The Class of '52, Bolles' twentieth group of graduates, had its start back in September, 1945, when Dickie Hardin, Henry McClellan, Bruce Norman, Neil Presser, and J. B. Waters first set foot on the campus. A little later in the year Bill Richardson brought their number up to six. With the following year nine more joined the Class of '52 and it began to take on some- thing of its present form. Included in these new arrivals were Jack Cowart, Stu Gregory, Wiley Jarrell, Charlie Kern, Squeek Marvin, Pete McCranie, Bobby Paul, Bill Slye, and Jug Wilson. John Dykers, Kayo Foshee, Robert Gryder, H. O. Myerstcn, R. D. Saunders, and Smokey Stover further fleshed out the class when they ioined up in September of 1947. Most of the early founders of '52 had left E Company and joined the Military or Naval units when 1948 saw Jose Abarca, Craig Ellison, Ronald Fowler, and Gene Stapler enroll as Freshmen. By the time 1949 rolled around the Class had begun to go places in athletics, academics, and iournalism and was already pegged as potentially one of the best Bolles has ever turned out. These convictions were strengthened when Bob Davidson, Mike Kenney, Ray King, Oscar Lange, Larry Moshell, Jerry Spragens, and Jim Tyson came in. Last year, 1950, brought thirteen more additions in the persons of Harry Bennett, Bob Brady, Frankie Brown, Bill Brown, David Dobson, Bob Ernest, Dud Johnston, Roy Lang, Scot- ty Manley, Frank Martin, Bill Montgomery, Bill Roll, and Madison Weeks. September, 1952, had the Class up to its graduating strength of sixty with the entrance of Len Bellingrath, Sam Bishop, Powell Brewton, Jose Campos, Val Cathey, Jack Denny, John Dyal, George Hatfield, Paul Herlowski, Dick Jackson, Charlie Mainwood, Andy McCullough, Lou Stark, Mike Tierney, and Alfredo Torres. So it was completed-the Class of 1952. This class probably had more old-timers than any in Bolles' history-boys who have been here five, six, and seven years-and it is, we feel, the better for it. And yet the later arrivals have contributed lust as much in work done and progress made toward a better Bolles. Look at the records-of 1952's athletic, military, naval, and iournalistic achievements-and, most important of all, the fact that this group of sixty has maintained probably the highest academic average for the entire year of any senior class in Bolles history. This is it-the Class of 1952, a class which, as Maior Hooker has said, has made the school a better place because they were here. He was constantly striving to improve his game of tennis, and could be found every afternoon out on the courts blast- ing away at that ole ball. Mike also had a personality which was hard to beat and a very good nature. It is indeed seldom that a boy leaves as good an impression on the faculty and cadets as this boy did in his stay here. ALFREDO LEON TORRES Mexico cirv, Mexico Entered, '51, Assd. Co. A, Conduct Bar. Alfredo, another member of that infam- ous Cuban delegation, and a new boy this year, has really come into his own this year. Mastering such minor details as learning English and survival at Bolles comparatively easily, we now feel that he is well on his way to college and suc- cess in the future. Jug Head, the name given him by his many triends here at Bolles, had a sense af humor from 'way back. Some of his comments will go down in the History of the school. He could be found in the companionship of such individuals as Henry A. McClellan, Bob Gryder, and the other wheels of the day boy branch of society. On the staff of the battalion this year, Jug Head continued to be the hard working chap that he was in the day boy platoon of Company A, and we feel that he will go far in life.
