As a result of unanimous effort and enterprise, we successfully sponsored a skating party and an unusual hayride during the Fall months. Our big spring project was our class play which was declared a hit following the performance in April. We are determined to make our Senior year as profitable and rewarding as this year has been. The football team of Bolivar Central School did very well this year under their new coach, Sherman Craumer. The Bulldogs of B.C.S. went UNDEFEATED in their seven-game schedule, which included five league games and two non-league games. As a result of this, Bolivar captured the Alle-Catt crown once again and was the area’s only undefeated eleven. Opening the season with a tremendous 20-0victoryover arch-rival Wellsville, the Bulldogs vanquished all opposition in preparation for the final game of the year with Allegany, also undefeated and untied. The tremendous interest, the tension, and the speculation generated by this meeting produced one of the most publicized and anticipated football games in Western New York annals. Not only was the league championship at stake in this game, but also the area’s mythical championship. The first half was a poor one for the Bulldogs as Allegany shot into a 14-0 lead. Hopes for an undefeated season were very low at this point. As soon as the second half started, Bolivar marched down the field and scored. Once again the Bulldogs hit pay dirt as a result of a fine defensive play. As play progressed, the Bulldogs hit harder and faster and finally, through a beautifully executed 80-yard scoring play, the tiebreaker was scored, making it 20-14. This is how the game ended with Bolivar finally the victor. Bolivar placed three men on the Times Herald All-Star team. They were: Brad Pohlig, Jack Bell, and Wayne Hollister. Bob Cawley, directed his varsity cagers through a tremendously successful season. The Bulldogs easily captured the County B title while rolling to a 14-4 won-lost record for regular season play. The playoffs began at Alfred University where our team displayed excellent teamwork in defeating Hammondsport 60-51, to clinch the Bi-County title. The next week found us in Rochester for the Section 5 semi-finals, where the Bulldogs showed magnificent desire and spirit in capturing a rousing 52-50 verdict over strong Williamson. The championship game against Phelps was one of the most memorable in B. C.S. annals. Before a huge crowd at Rochester, our boys fought back from 10 and 12 point deficits to finally overhaul a sound, steady playing Phelps team. It was a bitter, uphill battle for the Bulldogs before they grabbed the lead in the final quarter, tenaciously protected it, and, amid a thunderous ovation, were carried off the court--the very, very worthy Section 5 Basketball Champions of New York State. To the departing Seniors on the squad, Button, Hollister, Pohlig, Root, Tucker, and Wolfgang, we offer our thanks for the honor and prestige you have helped to bring to our school. Your examples of sportsmanship and determination will inspire the teams of future years. LEFT TO RIGHT: R. Button, R. Wolfgang, J. Root, W. Hollister, B. Pohlig, O. Brace, J. Button, J. Hulbert, R.
