“
Dedication Our class takes great pride in dedicating this yearbook to Coach Latimer But this pride is saddened and subdued by the realization of the unfathomable void his departure will leave in our school. His nine year career at Bolivar resounds with fabulous success A oonsecutive streak of 37 undefeated football games, 7 league championships, and a sectional basketball championship are some of the many achievements which have compiled the finest coaching record in New York State But, we know that the won-lost ool-umn is a secondary and ephemeral thing We want this book to express our gratitude to a man whose exemplary behavior has unrelentingly instilled anc ingrained within the youth of Bolivar the ideals of intergrity, propriety, and perseverance. Never were young people guided through the crucial, formative years of adolescence under a finer example than that set by Milton D Latimer. We will remember him as long as we remember gentlemanly and sportsmanlike conduct A. Perrons, Principal; C. O'Boyle, Secretary; W. Coyle, Superintendent G, Kuhn, Vice Principal. Gary Wood CLASS PROPHECY I am about to relate the actual story of the twenty-year re-union of the class of 1955, which takes place at the White House in Washington, D.C. The entire class is the guest of Edward Fagouri, who, like Harry Truman, left a small country clothing store to become president of our country. As I was elbowing my way up to the bar in the Gold Room, I ran into Norm Wallace, Pete McKay, and Bill Sackinger, highly successful manufacturers of Wearever coatsleeves that are guaranteed not to wear out from leaning on the mahogany. Bill invents them, they try 'em out. I noticed Tom Baker, firehose in hand, watching the melting ashtrays beside Janice Gardner, wife of the Army Chief of Staff and Windy Green, well-known burlesque queen. Standing on a chair next to them are Joyce Baxter and Bennie Bates, the Mr. and Mrs. of sport car fame. Wayland and Carol have flown up from Argentina where they are raising kangaroos and little gauchos. As I continue to glance about I spot Sally Morrison in one of her latest ball room creations, slinking across the dance floor with John Jordan, the celebrated hog caller from Indiana. Harvey Case, noted M.C. on Toast of the Town has arranged a fine evening of entertainment. The program includes Killer Bentley, who challenges any blind or crippled man to wrestle with him at least five minutes, and the world famous Rockettes, Delores Blowers, Shirley Griswold, Nancy Harmon, Lucy Jordan, Ruth Sherwood, and Shirley Small, fresh from a record smashing three night run at the Little Genesee Community Hall. And last, but not least, the rage of the teen-agers, crooner Duane Polen will honor us with a tear-jerking rendition of Lead, Kindly Light. The hors d'oeuvres and salami sandwiches were provided by Marion Cole, Ruth Colley, Donna Eaton, and Joyce Glase, the co-operators of the new and remodeled Chef Grill. Music for dancing is to the tune of the Dale Sisson orchestra, featuring Fog Van Horn and his magical trombone, and vocalist, Kay Foster, presenting the sweetest music this side of the other place. Some of the first dancers are Senators Earl Williams, Tom Murphy,Keith Fancher, and Fred Eberline. My, how well they all dance together. Mike Italiano, Secretary of Agriculture, is jitter-bugging with Deana Dempsey, who Is president of her own pipe company. She is smoking one now. Bolivar news is provided by Yak-Yak Sloat, gossip columnist whose program Is sponsored by the Papoosehead Beer and Ale Company, owned by Nancy Hollister and Wimp Jordan. She brews it, he drinks it. Official tasters In this company are Jerry Wilson, Ray Wescott, Gary Wood, and Jim Pickard, all very devoted to this non-paying job. Yak-Yak says that Dave Loucks, the mayor of Bolivar, has replaced the parking meters with sky hooks for helicopters. Mary Tower and Pat Dunn have taken over Maxson's and made it into a poolroom. Don Shaner and Ed Peters have taken over Irvie's and made It into an ice cream parlor. I see Janice Fulton the Diplomat's Darling waltzing with the chief of the F.B.I., Conrad Murphy. Over by the slot machines is Gayle Cowles, foreign ambassador to Lower Slobovia, enchanting all the Slobs . The evening's festivities are brought to a happy conclusion as a bulletin is received stating that Sara Mae has Just rounded the upper tip of Greenland in her marathon swim of the Atlantic. The Instrumental Music Department of Bolivar Central, Directed by Mr. Richard Saylor, sponsors a Junior band, a senior band, a dance band for qualified band members, and several small ensembles. Our vocal music is under the direction of Mrs. Evangeline Young. Included in the department are a grade choir, a Junior high chorus, a girl's ensemble, the high school chorus, and several small vocal groups. The senior band plays for all pep assemblies, home football games, a spring concert with the Junior band and the Memorial Day parade. The vocal offers, among other things, a Junior high school operetta and a spring concert. The senior band and the high school chorus also perform at the State Festival in the spring and at the Allegany County Musio Festival. This year Bolivar was the host school for the County Festival. The two organizations also offer a joint Christinas Concert The highlight of this years program was a performance of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel s Messiah . The Chorus and Band furnish the music for the Baccalaureate and Commencement Exercises in the spring. Bolivar was well represented in the All-State Sectional and All-County musical organizations. Those selected were: for band. Jack Root, Shirley Presher, Shirley Knox, James Hulbert, Keith Lewis, and Ronnie Paffie; and for chorus, Sara Mae Newell, Donna Eaton, Ed Myers, Duane Polen, Robert Wilkinson, and Betty Foster. 1st Row: 2nd Row: ,3rd Row: Uth Row: 5th Row: C.
