The spirit and pride within the school is contagious. The building we call Bolingbrook High School is beautiful and has many fine features. Also the community response to the building has been outstanding. Qs However, by itself, the building is a lifeless monument- the students and the staff make B.H.S. The class of 1975 has set a pattern for future classes to build on and to emulate. ln future years, when the pictures and articles in this yearbook are reviewed, many happy memories of B.H.S. will be recalled. Good Luck! E '. eiiiif fit? 1 1 William R. Rutter, Superintendent Qi1gzQu itll ,X 5514 .95.71 7 S Superintendent: William R. Rutter The graduates of the Class of 1975 shall be remembered as this fine school's first graduates. The Classes of 1976, 1977 and 1978 will forever be able to say we were first into this building . However, l and many others shall not forget that this year's students were the ones who established the traditions and set the fine examples for which Bolingbrook High School will always be remembered. The greatest inventions of the past were those which have lessened the distance between peoples and have brought them physically together - the wheel, the sailboat, the steamboat, the railroad, the automobile and the airplane. lt is now time for you, the future leaders of our community, state and nation, to promote a just and friendly culture that will draw more closely together minds of people. lt is of little benefit to physically bring people together if they are to remain far apart in their thinking and in their feelings. We must forever recognize and appreciate the contributions of past inventors and scientists. However, l and the rest of the world stand ready to pay honor to those of you who accept the challenge of participating in the turnaround which our society must make. We look for you to lead us toward the development of personal ideals of honesty, integrity, and dependability. You must redefine success as the achievement of fine, noble character rather than the acquisition of material things alone. Our prayers for success are with you. A. X A true Phoenix is rare, unique, blessed with individuality and originality, curtailed by selection. A Phoenix dies, is reborn, is lost, then is renewed. Consumed by its own flame, the Phoenix rises from its smokey pyre and begins anew another five hundred years of existence. By word and rhythm we, the staff, hope to continue the cycle of the Phoenix. Traditionally the industrial, commercial, professional, educational and governmental communities of Lockport Township have sponsored a Top Tenn banquet honoring the top ten per cent of Senior Scholars. This banquet is unique because many of the students are given public recognition for their diligence and self-discipline in achieving excellent grades. Each student was seated with a sponsor, who is a leader in our community. The students were individually recognized and presented with a framed certificate of award. The speaker ofthe evening was Virginia Ann Church, Ph.D., .l.D., Dean, Lewis University College of Law. She gave a short presentation concerning the changing role of women in society today as well as the responsiblities that both men and women have in the business and social community atmosphere in the 20th century. We have overcome many obstacles and difficulties. We have accomplished this with the aid of many highly dedicated people. To all these people such as board members, school adminis- trators, faculty and parents we owe and would like to give much thanks for their guidance, assistance, and understanding. Let's consider briefly some of the things during the last year which have helped to distinguish us as a senior class. We began the year by attending afternoon shift at RHS. Then we left our friends in Romeoville completely and moved into an unfinished building. We showed the greatest amount of cooperation in getting through that critical period. Finally and most importantly we showed our responsibility by not only continuing old traditions, but starting some of our own new ones. We did this despite the fact that we came here in our final year. As the first class of seniors to graduate from Bolingbrook High, we have been able to set a good example for the many classes that will follow. We have laid a strong foundation for future students to build on. We are here today to receive our diplomas as a result of determination and effort on all our parts. As the members of the class of '75 we are entering a world which is politically, economically and socially very unstable and one in which more and more people are loosing their freedom in various manners. While receiving our diplomas, today, we should recognize that the diploma is a primary tool which may be used along with determination, responsibility and effort to achieve our individual goals. We are graduating from an excellent school in every respect located in a diverse expanding and prosperous community. As we begin the next phase of our lives, we have a challenge to meet and a duty to fulfill, namely, we must become active members andfor leaders of our community, state and country and thereby strive to preserve and reenforce the laws and principles upon which our nation was built. We must readily accept the challenge before us with the same courage and initiative which we have shown thus far. Valedictorian speech by Vinek Kaistha. Co-Salutatorian speech by Linda DeViney. Co-Salutatorian speech by Mike Benik. Members and Fellow Students, .lust because we are officially finished with this phase of edu- cation doesn't mean we aren't learning things all of the time. A few days ago I learned how difficult it is to try to write a graduation speech that is completely different from everyone else's. The only way to do this would be to say things that are completely irrelevant. I would like to be able to say something to you now that would affect your lives in a positive way and give you the faith in your convictions to carry you through all of the times ahead. But no words alone can carry such power unless there is total belief in the sentiments behind them. So all I have to say is this, I am extremely proud to have been a member of the class of '75 and I hope that you will all be successful in whatever you choose to do. Thank you. Ladies, Gentlemen, Honored Guests, and the Graduating Class of 1975. I'd like to direct my comments to the graduating class. Being up here behind this podium is a honor for me, however, if it was possible to build a large enough stand, we'd all be up here because all of us studied for four long years which are now quickly coming to an end. Some may say Thank Goodness! Some may have a tear in their eye. But no matter, a phase of our lives has passed. A phase which will not easily be forgotten. Even as I stand here some of you may be think- ing of the past past's triumphs, and failures. Now we must all say Au revoiu to the past, for we are embarking upon a new adventure. The adventure is adulthood. We must live as adults and accept responsibility as adults. So as you pack all the skills you learned in High School for this new adventure, may you also carry with you well wishes from me - Good Luck! 11 4 .F - A. -an 'R Jxi 53, . m .5 Ax .HY X xx, X ia 'Q X334 nf xv! ls if .. . x , ,, .x ,. , N . ,,,, gi ,Mx X 5 N- Y I 4' , n z', On GW' if-Q1 Q,-.,. Joseph In Memoriam 'K .pin-...af al' SY Theresa Johnson When you're alone with Him And He sweetly smiles on thee, Will you gently whisper to Him, A little prayer for me? And when I'm alone with Him And all else is hid from view, I'll gently drop into His heart A little prayer for you. Because I could not stop for Death - He kindly stopped for me - The Carriage held but just Ourselves - And Immortality. We slowly drove - He knew no haste And l had put away My labor and my leisure too, For his Civility - We passed the School, where Children strove At Recess -in the Ring - We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain - We passed the Setting Sun - Or rather - He passed Us - The Dews drew quivering and chill- For only Gossamer, my Gown - My Tippet - only Tulle - We paused before a House that seemed A swelling of the Ground - The Roof was scarcely visible - The Cornice -inthe Ground - Since then - 'tis Centuries - and yet Feels shorter than the Day I first surmised the Horses Heads Were toward Eternity - Emily Dickinson 4 BEL TED CHRISTENING FOR BH A.
