Keeping pace with the times, the commercial artist brings to our attention new, interesting, and useful products of our mod' ern age. The work embraces the design and execution of layouts, comprehensive and fin' ished drawings for advertising, e.g., booklets, trademarks, book jackets, magazine covers, illustrations, package and container designs. The commercial artist plans the lettering, creates and designs illustrations for window cards, posters, street car advertisements, and draws pictures which are so much more successful than words alone in describing merchandise in catalogs, magazines, and newspapers. Skill is developed in freehand drawing, design, composition, and layout, as well as in the various commercial and theatrical styles of lettering. The student studies newspaper, magazine, and trade paper layouts, fashion drawing, poster design, retouching, and both color and pen and ink work.
