messages to the graduates from our principal . . . Edward M Fee Ph D ,gf Lv ff With the passage of time, the maturity of our young men and women should make ap' parent to them that their basic education may be broadened, narrowed, and deepened. This is a realization common to the graduates of all schools at all levels There may be times in our rapidly changmg world when it will be necessary for graduates to take account of the direction of their development in order to grow symetrically A one dimensioned or a two dimensloned development would make an individual into a monstrosity Nature usually prevents this however nature often needs to be helped due to the conditions of modern hvmg The specialist broadens with his reading with travel with interests outside his field The broad individual must eventually narrow at some point due to the demands of the age He realizes that all breadth and little depth results in a shallow mdividual whose services have little demand Few people are really too deep However some people suspected of per sonality defects and of being cranks will be found here Extreme development of any kind is often unnatural and causes nature to prof test 1n some manner If you find yourself drift mg too far rn this direction try fishing instead of reading There is a lifetime ahead with a tendency towards a shorter work day and work week Avoid underestimating the value of small amounts of time available for self improve ment day to day week to week and year to year Time is a valuable asset to educated people It may be most important in shaping your life . 0 f I 0 . . . , . . , . . . . , . , 9 - 2 , .
