There are fifteen different types of degrees represented on the faculty: Ph.D., Litt.D., Dr. fur.,Ed.D., MA., M.S., M.N., M.E.A., M.N., M.F.A.,M.S. Ed., M.Mus., BA., BS., B.M., BN. and B.S.Ed. They have attended sixty-five different colleges and universities in the United States besides higher institutions in six foreign countries: England, France Germany, Ireland, Mexico and Switzerland. Twenty-nine have attended colleges in Idaho, twenty-one in California, twelve in Washington, eleven in Oregon, ten in Colorado and nine in Utah besides representing the following states: Arlqansas, Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Min- nesota, Montana, Nebraslga, New Yorlq, North Dalqota, Ohio, Penn- sylvania and Texas. Promotion of scholarship, development of character, and cultivation of fellowship among students of both sexes of the junior colleges of the United States of America are the objectives of the society. A grade point average of 3.5 or higher is required for invitation into the club and an initiation was held for forty new members in April. Their pur- pose is to foster a spirit of competiton and friendliness on the campus. Among their activities and projects were ushering, filling a Thanks- giving basket, decorating the Christmas tree in the main hall, caroling, and co-operating with the Intercollegiate Knights on the camival. The Valkyries also built the iirst place iloat for Homecoming this year. I I orking to promote a concern for world affairs through local action is the purpose of the International Relations Club. It is composed of students who are interested in a better acquaintance with some of the main national and international trends. The club, meeting every Friday noon in the Union. helped sponsor the World University Service, featured student speakers and discussions at weekly meetings, and held evening pot luck dinners to hear guest speakers. Once every week the members tested their linguistic skills by con- versing in German at a lunch table in the Student Union. Among their other activities were German word games and films. Also Dr. de Neufville showed slides taken during his European trip the previous summer. President of the organization was Clarence Harper, with Paul Tracy as vice-president and Lila Iohnson as secretary-treasurer. The group was advised by Dr. de Neutville. Selective membership for this national brotherhood included thirty pledges. Among this year's activities were building of a bonfire and float for the Homecoming celebration, crowning of Duchess Inez Elguezabal at the Golden Plume Ball, awarding of scholarships, and working with the Valkyries on the carnival. The purpose of the club is to promote a direct interest in the language, customs, and culture of Spanish-speaking countries. The club held monthly meetings with varied programs such as talks by Latin American students, playing of Spanish games. moving pictures. and Latin American dancing. In addition. Spanish Table was held two noons each week in the Student Union. Spanish was spoken at both. The club strives to help students learn more about the French people and their customs. Opportunities are provided for the actual use of the French language. Some of their activities this year were meetings where the members played word games and watched slides of Dr. de Neufville's trip to Europe. Weekly noon meetings were held in the Student Union. Interest was added to the club by the presence of Lionel Fialdes from Paris, France. He is the first French exchange student to study at BIC. The biggest money making project of the year was the selling of mums at Homecoming time, and each month a candy sale was sponsored. Also the annual fifty dollar scholarship was given to a girl planning to live in the dorm. In February the AWS sponsored the Sweethearts' Ball. Crowned King of Hearts was Fred Norman, with Todd Sagraves and Daryl Hill as lacks. Highlighting the twenty-second season of the orchestra. was the premiering of C. Griffith Bratt's Second Symphony . This symphony was the first one to be commissioned in Idaho. In the spring, the orchestra joined with the combined choirs of Boise Iunior College and the College of Idaho in presenting Mozart's Requiem , under the direction of Mr. Grant Fletcher from Chicago. Also performed during the year was Symphonic Suite by William Schink. a sophomore music student at BIC. The only requirement for a girl to be a member is that she enjoy singing. Iackie Sherburn. Mary Cochran, and Betty Link sang as a trio this year while Louel Iohnson accompanied them at the piano. Mrs. Lucille T. Forter directed the ensemble.
