SENIOR PROPHECY 1949 Z Let us climb into our Atomic Rocket which will take us thirteen years into the future. Zoom! We are off! . , ' We shall see some of our old classmates whom we haven't seen for many years. The first we see are Ray Brackett and Frances Lee, who are now Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brackett. They live on Washington Street in Shelby, N. C., where Ray is the sheriff of Cleveland County. Next, we see Glenn Powell who is foreman of Mr. Moore's farm on highway 150 near Boiling Springs. He is still flirting with every new girl that comes along. . Shirley Woodall is the girls' basketball coach for Gardner-Webb. The girls lost another game to Mars Hill last night. Let us hope they win the next one. Harold Walker, better known as Red , is now an engineer for the Duke Power Company . As we all know Albert Hamrick wanted to be a private secretary. She finished college and got a job with a private detective in New York. I think they finally got married. That's what that kind of work will do for you. Pete McCraw, who once said, I'll get a diploma or quit! finally quit after thirteen years of bad luck in senior English. Now he's driving a pick-up for the state. Max Harris is a nominee for governor of North Carolina on a Democratic ticket. Marjorie Blanton is choir director for the First Church in Winston-Salem. Ima Jean Hamrick and Hazel Spake had their wishes granted and have become models for several large concerns in New York. Wayne Earls is driving a bus for one of the several large bus lines in Boiling Springs. Izener Huffman made an 'athletic director for Polkville. He is making good showing in the basketball tournament at the armory. Conway Goode is agrciulture teacher at Lattimare. 1 Rachel Ann Lemons is now teaching second year French at Gardner-Webb. One reason she is so in- terested in French is that her boy friend lives in France. Johnnie Mae Hammett and Evelyn Hester are good housewives, or so their husbands say. Grace Hawkins is skating instructor at the Boiling Springs Skating Rink. She gets a thrill out of teaching boys how to skate. Some of the boys will never learn to skate because they like Grace's teaching too well. Joe Dean Ledbetter has a good farm south of Boiling Springs where he has settled down. Billy Walker, who loved make-up, especially when it was on girls, got a job as make-up artist with Twen- tieth Century Fox. Doris Martin is running her own beauty parlor in Charlotte. I think Paul Rogers landed a contract with some studio in Hollywood as an actor, Paul likes his oc- cupation. Helen LaNier, who was very good in English in high school, got a job as an English teacher somewhere in Virginia. And me, well, I'm just the pilot of this rocket which we are riding on. Miss Dorothy Sue Hamrick was our Home Room Teacher. The Class event of the year was a weiner roast and skating party. We thought our boys made an excellent record by winning the class Basketball tournament. The Class of '47 had the loss of 10 members. We had a picnic that year. Miss Dorothy Sue Hamrick, our home room teacher, went with us. The 10th grade boys won the class Basketball tournament. In 1948 the class lost 20 more students and gained 1 which made us 3 total of 33 members . We honored the Senior Class with a banquet that year. The theme for the Banquet was In Fair Hawaii. It was given April 21, 1948, at the Hotel Charles in Shelby, North Carolina. The Juniors got 3, great Pleasure out of giving the banqlldt. We WlSl'1 tO thank Miss Dorothy S112 Ham- rick in giving the banquet and for being our home room teacher in '46, '47, '48. We ordered our rings in '48 and the Junior play was also given entitled Three Old Maid Aunts. The boys kept up the good work and won the grade tournament again. The class of 1949 has Mrs. Unie Hamrick for our home room teacher. She will also direct the Senior play. Our membership this year is 24. At the beginning of this year we received our class rings. They carried the tradtional emblem which is the torch. We are looking forward to the Banquet given in our honor by the Junior Class. But most important of all we are looking forward to graduation day, after that we will go to join the vast and happy throng of B. S. H. S. Alumni. ' RACHEL ANN LEMONS, Class Historian. ef' 'N - f . . els LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF CLASS 1949 Z Friends of B. S. H. S., being collectively of sound mind and body, no fear of anyone before us: We hereby make public this our last will and testament, the ninth day of February, 1949. We give and bequeath to the school as a whole any memories they have of us, either good or bad. We give and bequeath to our teachers all our unfinished lessons and our badly, unread reactions. We also will to them peaceful nights and undisturbed slumber, for no longer will they worry about our examina- tions, no longer will our grades disappoint them. To Professor Hamrick, our principal, we bequeath our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for his great interest in us in the shaping of our lives and the part he played in making us what we are. May God's richest blessings be upon him always. To our parents who have made our school days possible, we promise to make the most of our education. To Hester Martin, Frances Lee leaves her dignity as a senior. Shirley Woodall leaves her talent to Frances Allen. To Johnnie Mae Smith, Marjorie Blanton leaves her wit. ' To Reese Honeycutt, Bill Walker leaves his ability to imitate Professor Hamrick on English class. Johnnie Mae Hammett leaves her shyness to Peggy Love Jones. To Billie Hawkins, Glenn Powell leaves his motto, Always be late for English class. To Lavenia Burgin, Grace Hawkins leaves her beauty. Alberta Hamrick leaves her ability to make good grades to Frits Blankenship. Paul Rogers leaves his personality to Peggy Hamrick. To Peggy Self, Rachel Ann Lemons leaves her ability to study. Helen LaNier leaves her seat in English class to David Hamrick. 'To Becky Brooks, Doris Martin leaves her ability to attract boys. To Steve Holland, Max Harris leaves his place on the annual staff. Conway Goode leaves his ability to be courteous to Carrie Lee Hoyle. To Mary Frances George, Evelyn Hester leaves her ability to draw. Joe Herbert leaves his ability to get geometry to Nick Green. To Madge Dixon, Hazel Spake leaves her English book. To Max Hamrick, Joe Dean Ledbetter leaves his ability to entertain Mrs. Ada Hamrick. To Junior Hamrick, Wayne Earls leaves his bus to drive. Ima Jean Hamrick leaves to Frances Weaver her ability to get physics. To Donald Gene Pruitt, Ray Brackett leaves his good-naturedness. IMA JEAN Hamucx, Class Tcstator CLAS-S POEM S16 The time has come for us to leave you, But never let this parting grieve you. The years have passedg We do the sameg We pass ong but you remain. The glorious hours that we spent with each other Must stop at this pointg they cannot go further. But our alma mater has been so dear That we'll never forget these blessed years. SPORTS Z O The Boiling Springs boys had a very successful season this year. We lost only one conference game and ended up second in the county tournament. We got off to a bad start by losing the first game to Mooresboro, but our team developed so rapidly that we won the other conference games. We defeated every team with the exception of Fallston, the county champions, at least once. In non-conference games played we defeat- ed Piedmont, Northbrook, and Tri Hi and they defeated us once each. In the county tournament we de- feated Piedmont and No. 3, but were beaten by Fallston in the finals. The girls had a fair season winning four and losing six conference games. One reason for losing was the players had very little experience with the exectpion of Woodall. Graduation last year took all the first team forwards and all the guards except Brooks. Lingerfelt and Stancel, a forward and a guard, stopped school to be married. With the inexperienced players and the lack of a gymn to practice in we consider that they too had a very successful season.
