on grafufafiond lo MR. SILAS H. ORRIS For 51 Years of Teaching To Silas H. Orris go the thanks of two thousand one hundred and forty- A four students, not only for the knowledge they received through his teaching, but also for his discipline, tolerance, patience, and his Christian attitude and wis- dom. The class of '54 would sincerely like to echo these thanks, by dedicating these two pages to Mr. Orris and thus have another means of remembering him. Silas Orris was born July 29, 1884 in lower Frankford Township, Cumber- land County, Pennsylvania, He received his early education at a rural school in Frankford Township and Mechanicsburg High School. From 1902 to 1904 he at- tended Cumberland Valley State Normal School, and later he took courses at Ship- pensburg State Normal School, Dickinson College, and Scranton Correspondence School. During his fifty years of teaching, Mr. Orris has taught rural and gram- mar schools in Frankford Township and Boiling Springs and mathematics and history at West Pennsboro and Boiling Springs. Fishing, reading, attending sales to look for goblets Cwhich he collectsj and playing with politics are Mr. Orris' hobbies. After retirement he expects to have more time to pursue these hobbies. He is also very much interested in Sunday School and Church work. Mr. Orris is an active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Carlisle and is teacher of the Men's Bible Class in that Sun- day School.
