ORRIS For 51 Years of Teaching To Silas H. Orris go the thanks of two thousand one hundred and forty- A four students, not only for the knowledge they received through his teaching, but also for his discipline, tolerance, patience, and his Christian attitude and wis- dom. The class of '54 would sincerely like to echo these thanks, by dedicating these two pages to Mr. Orris and thus have another means of remembering him. Silas Orris was born July 29, 1884 in lower Frankford Township, Cumber- land County, Pennsylvania, He received his early education at a rural school in Frankford Township and Mechanicsburg High School. From 1902 to 1904 he at- tended Cumberland Valley State Normal School, and later he took courses at Ship- pensburg State Normal School, Dickinson College, and Scranton Correspondence School. During his fifty years of teaching, Mr. Orris has taught rural and gram- mar schools in Frankford Township and Boiling Springs and mathematics and history at West Pennsboro and Boiling Springs. Fishing, reading, attending sales to look for goblets Cwhich he collectsj and playing with politics are Mr. Orris' hobbies. After retirement he expects to have more time to pursue these hobbies. He is also very much interested in Sunday School and Church work. Mr. Orris is an active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Carlisle and is teacher of the Men's Bible Class in that Sun- day School. JM-'--'+-..L., . We, the Bubbler Staff, hope that this book will re- vivify the happy, carefree days of high school life wherever you may roam in the years to come. ELEMENTARY 8: HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING SOUTH IVIIDDLETON TOWNSHIP CUMBERLAND COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA 5 :becbca fion MISS RUTH SNYDER To Miss Snyder and Mr. Paxton in ap- preciation for their constant friendship, in- struction, and leadership, we, the members of the class of 1954, 'humbly and respectfully ded icate this Bubb1er Yearbook. MR. PAUL L. PAXTON 'B ' f, iwygx , Ni . The Seniors: Congratulations! You have come to that place for which you have strived for twelve years. However, my congratulations are in the sense that you have done only that which countless thousands have done before you. lt now remains for you to work out your own private destiny. To build a career of service, success, and happiness, both in the interest of self and of society, becomes not only your privilege but your duty. A few parting words I would impress upon you. Whatever you do, do well. De- velop higher and better standards of perfor- mance in every task to which your efforts are committed. In espousing a worthy cause, never compromise. Stand for principle, honor, and service. Your school believes in you. Justify that trust by good deeds and successful achievement. G. E. Taylor Supervising Principal The Seniors: During the past twelve years there were perhaps many times that each of you looked ahead to graduation from High School as the end of the trail g but now that you have arrived the situation has a completely different aspect. Truly it marks a commence- ment to a larger and broader life. Congratulations to the Class of 1954 on having achieved this important milestone in your journey through life. You have been an excellent group with which to work. My only hope is that we have provided all of you with the necessary foundations and that you have retained and will be able to apply these un- derstandings, skills, and attitudes to much advantage wherever you may go and whatever you may do. May you have much success in all of your future undertakings. W. D. Heckman Principal 8 LYNN G, BRENNEMAN Mt, Holly Springs, Pa. As we sit around the fire, our minds begin to wonder what A ' ' x our class mates will be doing in a few years. As we watch the smoke rise, we imagine f we are driving through the country-side. 7 'QQ 1 'OSH As we drive through the country-side, we see John Walters, Dale Casto and Ed- dead Q ward Miller, neighboring farmers, who are harvesting the fall crops. Farther down the ' road housewives, Catherine Weibner and Mary Wolf, while hanging their weekly wash, - are talking about their children. lx Upon entering a city, we stop at a Service Station and diner owned by William Tanger. Inside the diner. waitress, Ella Riggleman, is serving truck driver, Cyrus Stei- gelman. A few blocks away is the city hospital where Doctor Peter Sharp and his nurse, 'A Jeanette Miller, are preparing for surgery. On the second floor we see nurses, Geraldine 0 Keck and Shirley Bagrosky. As we continue driving through the city, we pass a business building where Robert I K Coyle and Lynn Negley are in conference with electrical engineer, Milton Jacoby, about future work. In the outer office secretaries Patty Gulden and Faye Haskell are busy. A- cross the hall is the office of a construction company operated by Barry Dasher and Fred Hummel whose secretaries, Mary Alice Murray and Delores Rynard, are preparing to leave for the morning coffee break. Passing a Beauty Salon owned by Jane Comp and Ina Heller, we hear Joyce Howe and Donna Matthews, who are waiting to have their hair done. discussing Shirley Stover, their children's kindergarten teacher, who will be leaving in the fall for a position in Germany. A little farther down the street we see housewives, Addanell Woods, Glae Stump and Patsy Saphore, entering the office of Nancy Finkey, now a famous interior decorator. As we turn down the next street, we pass the high school where dietitians, June Brandt and Marie McKinney, are putting on a demonstration for Doris Kinkaid's home economics students. Planning the activities for the school's open house are Nancy Wise, Music teacher, Arlene Hammann, Physical Education lnstructorg and Martha Waggoner, English teacher. ln the next block in one of the more popular restaurants owned by Wayne Trostle, we find secretaries Colleen Clark, Shirley Darhower, Caroline Waggoner and Faye Yeingst making plans for the annual secretaries' banquet. Across the street in the barber shop of Carl Nelson are Robert Weiss, Chemical engineer, and John Sherman, Marine Officer. On the edge of the city is Ben Moyer 's Used Car Lot, and Donald Kuntz, a successful factory worker, is there buying a car. As we again enter the country, we turn on the radio in time to hear the daily sport broadcast. The Brooklyn Dodgers are again favored to win the National League Pennant because of the return of thirty game winner Leroy Bream and power hitting short stop Millard Ilgenfrltz from the Armed forces. Charles Delp, who broke the football record for the number of completed passes last year, has just signed his new contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Local athlete, James Baker, has qualified for the Olympic game this year in discus competition. As we near the farms of Donald Barnhart and Richard Murtoff, we find Mervln Shughart, soil conservationist, helping them solve their farming problems. As the embers of the fire grow dimmer and our imaginations cease to function, the world of make-believe vanishes. We begin to wonder just how many facts we have foreseen concerning the future of our classmates. Z5 AM' 'T fr Q., X, S, . This year the Senior Chorus consists of thirty-two students. Although this group is rather small, it contains people who are most musical and willing to work, Probably the high- light of the group's performances was the Christmas Pageant at which some very beautiful singing was done. The chorus also took part in a minstrel show which was produced by the band association, a P.T.A. meeting, Baccalaureate, and Commencement, Within the senior high chorus are some very popular duet, trio, quartet and octet com- binations, in addition to many soloists and a very faithful, excellent accompanist, 1954 has been a very fruitful and happy year with the chorus, The Junior Chorus is divided into two groups this year, The larger group, consisting of girls of 7th, 8th and 9th grades meet once a week during club period. They have been work- ing quite hard on vocal technique and have been singing mostly for their own enjoyment. There is also a small group of 9th grade boys who sing and work once a week. They have just begun to meet during the second semester. There have been no public performances of either group this year, yet their spirit and enjoyment of singing make each class period a very happy one. unior . The team upheld the honor of the teams of the last four years when they went undefeated in league competition and won the championship. The outlook on baseball at Boiling Springs for the next few years is very bright because the team loses only two first string players through graduation, along with three reserves.
