During our first year we had twenty-nine members. They were: Tommy Ballenger, Carol Buehling, Audrey Alvey, Kenneth Alvey, Dorothy Brinstentine, Harold Caylor, Dollie Childres,Donald Conway, Billy Farmer, Lee Roy Fisher, Nancy Fraker, Carlos Gray, Jim Guy, Leo Hadley, Mike Hanahan, Carolyn Hopper, John King, John Hurley, Richard Lehman, Max Mohr, Kenneth Randolph, Janice Richardson, Eileen Shaw, Arleine Taylor, Maurice Taylor, Caroline Taylor, JuanitaTillison, Clara Tull, Ann Woolridge. We journeyed with pupils entering and leaving until in our eighth grade we graduated from common school with nineteen members. They were: Tommy Ballenger, Thomas Blackburn, Carol Buehling, Dollie Childres, Donald Conway, Nancy Fraker, Lee Roy Fisher, Carlos Gray, Mike Hanahan, Dick Hofmann, John King, Kenny Mahurin, Kennth Randolph, Eileen Shaw, Caroline Taylor, Juanita Tillison, Clara Tull, Carol Ann Brown, Donnel Dean. In our freshman year, we gained six pupils from Hendricks Township, They were: Enda Cox, Mary Frances Hudson, Beverly Hudson, Sue Carol Mann, Layne McDowell, Harold Wayne Thopy. Dawn Watts came from Carthage and Dora Slevin came from Center Grove. Ten of us have gone to school at Boggstown all twelve years. We are Tommy Ballenger, Carol Buehling, Lee Roy Fisher, Nancy Fraker, Carlos Gray, Mike Hana.ha.n, John King, Eileen Shaw, Caroline Taylor, and Clara Tull. We have had many enjoyable years here at Boggstown School, but we have looked forward to graduate in 1955. B111 Nancy .Q ' T 5 'ref' 0:3 f Pl Caroline Tile Un 5 P opflecy January 26 1975 Dear Carollne Ton1ght my husband and I went to the Hollywood Theater to wltness the telev1s1on show called Th1s ls Your L1fe I w1ll never be able to express my rn1xed feel1ngs of Joy and bew1lderment when DICK Hofmann master of ceremonles of Th1s Is Your Llfe called me to the stage and announced that ton1ght s program was to be on my l1fe After the f1rst shock was over I was pleasantly surpr1sed to see M1ke Hanahan enter My' I can remember what a m1sch1evous boy he used to be You would hardly recogn1ze h1m now He 1S so d1st1ngu1shed look1ng I guess bemg Dean of Purdue Un1 vers1ty has settled M1ke The next person to come 1nto vxew was E1leen Shaw Th1s was the f1rst t1me I had seen E1leen SIHCS she began her career of channel sw1mm1ng She told me she has broken all speed records 1n channel sw1mm1ng Suddenly I heard a vo1ce over a m1crophone For a m1nute I couldn t place the vo1ce Then It came to me that lt was B1ll Scott How I ever could forget that VOICC I ll never know He never was qu1et 1n Enghsh class or any other class He 1S now a mem ber of a debatmg team that travels all over the world The curta1n rose aga1n and there was Edna Cox Remember the cookmg class days? I never thought Edna would l1ke cookmg and planmng menus well enough to be come a d1et1t1an She works at the Mayo Cl1HlC J1m Guy appeared next He gave me t1ckets to h1s Dragnet show H15 show 1S d1f ferent from the one we used to watch He 15 always try1ng not to fmd the facts so lt IS very 1ntr1gu1ng Dur1ng the commer1cal I got a chance to v1s1t w1th my classmates They assured me there were more to come By th1s t1me the shock had worn off and I was really enjoy 1ng myself The commer1cal was over 1n about two mmutes and the show proceeded They ra1sed the curta1n and there stood Thomas Blackburn Iwould never have bel1eved that one person could change so much He was always so qu1et 1n school and now he IS an establ1shed Broadway actor I heard a commot1on back stage and out came Carol Buehl1ng She had several small ch1ldren Wlth her She runs a baby s1tt1ng agency She always d1d have a knack w1th ch1ldren Aga1n a vo1ce spoke to me over the m1crophone Th1s t1me I had no trouble plac1ng the vo1ce It was Lee Roy F1sher He made such a good class pres1dent that he dec1ded to run for Pres1dent of the Un1ted States on the Wh1g Party t1cket Unfortunately he was defeated When John Kmg appeared he 1mmed1ately began pass1ng out c1gars No he s st1ll a bachelor He had rece1ved them for Chr1stmas and was afrald to smoke them because of h1S vo1ce He IS the solo1st at the Metropol1tan Opera The curta1n opened and Clara Tull stepped out She looked so lovely You wouldn t thmk she was a lady detect1ve She always d1d l1ke to get the facts I heard mus1c play1ng and there sat Carlos Gray play1ng the p1ano He has h1s own telev1s1on program and dr1ves a p1nk Rolls Royce The last one to appear was Tommy Ballenger He 1S a cr1m1nal lawyer now and has a br1ll1ant future ahead of h1m I mxssed you at the program but they told me you were 1n Par1s hav1ng a wonderful t1me see1ng the new fash1ons and br1ng1ng back new 1deas for your own fashlon shoppe My two Chlldren are f1ne I m so glad I dec1ded to marry 1nstead of bemg an old ma1d school teacher I ll be see1ng you soon Your classmate Jam 1 1 U . . ,, . . . . . . . . Vernon Photographs seen on these pages are made possxble by the members of the Junlor 8: Senlor Class of 1954, V ou are There Early last May 1954 the Jun1or and Sen1or Classes here at Boggstown School made a tr1p to Wash1ngton D C The tr1p followed a schedule arranged by M1ller Tours Inc of Ind1anapol1s A representat1ve of that company went on the tour w1th us as the1r agent and our gu1de We left Boggstown on the early morn1ng of May 10 and pass1ng through Dayton Oh1o made our way to that day s dest1nat1on Clarksburg West V1rg1n1a Clarksburg was the b1rthplace of Stonewall Jackson the famous Confederate general dur1ng the C1v1l War Although the c1ty IS not large lt has an engag1ng and var1ed h1story and was therefore 1nterest1ng to all of us We spent our f1rst n1ght at Clarksburg and aga1n got an early start the follow1ng mornmg That day s objectxve was Wash1ngton Before enter1ng the Cap1tal C1ty how ever we stopped at Ft Myer Vlrglnla where the Arl1ngton Nat1onal Cemetery 1S1O cated Among the bu1ld1ngs and memor1al structures located there IS the old home of Robert E Lee known as the Lee MQHSIOH the Tomb of the Unknown Sold1er and the Arl1ngton Memor1al Amph1theater The Changlng of the honorary m1l1tary guard on the east front of the Amph1theater where the Tomb IS located const1tutes an 1mpress1ve ceremony that always attracts a crowd We were fortunate 1n Seelng lt After leavmg the Cemetery we entered Wash1ngton a.nd proceeded d1rectly to our hotel The Annapol1s We were 1n Wash1ngton for two n1ghts and one and one half days Wh1le there we saw the L1ncoln and Jefferson Memor1als and the Nat1onal Art Gallery on a n1ght tour of the c1ty The effect of these wh.1te 11mestone and marble ed1f1ces 1S enhanced at n1ght by the l1ght1ng techmques employed by the1r caretakers Other h1gh hghts of our WaSh1ngt0n tour were the Cap1tal Bu1ld1r1g where we saw the Senate 1n sess1on and the Wh1te House through wh1ch we were conducted after a long wa1t outs1de the grounds Other attract1ons 1n Wash1ngton for us were the Wash1ngton Monument the Sm1thson1an lnst1tut1on and the U S M1nt About s1xteen m1les south of Wash1ngton 1S Mt Vernon the h1stor1cal home of George Wash1ngton We were allowed to tour the grounds gardens and bu1ld1ngs by our selves 1nstead of be1ng w1th gu1des We were furmshed a map of the ent1re estate and thus could go wherever we w1shed The next Clty we v1s1ted on the tr1p was Annapol1s Maryland home of the famous Naval Academy We took an extended tour of the Academy observ1ng the undergraduates 1n a few of the1r var1ous act1v1t1es Dr1ll maneuvers on board the sh1ps 1n Dewey Bas1n a man made harbor engaged our attent1on for many m1nutes The harbors seemed to be always HCt1Ve w1th naval launches and tra1n1ng craft Agam resum1ng our tr1p we traveled north to Ba1t1more where we spent another n1ght The next morn1ng we went to Gettysburg Pennsylvanxa s1te of the famous Battle of Gettysburg 1n 1863 Many monuments have been establ1shed at Gettysburg to the part1c1pants 1n that battle F1eld art1llery have been placed on exh1b1t 1n presumably the same battle l1nes 1n wh1ch they were used They are promment everywhere over the many acres of ground composlng the battle f1e1d Perhaps outstand1ng among all the monuments and memor1als there 1S the Eternal L1ght Peace Memor1al wh1ch commemorates the reconc1l1at1on of the Un1on and Confederate peoples after the war The 1mpos1ng memorxal to Abraham L1ncoln and h1s Gettysburg address stands near where that famous speech was del1vered Gettysburg 15 one of the famous battles of m1l1ta.ry history. 1 .v I ' U , . On the road agaln we contmnued to P1ttsburgh on the Pennsy1van1a Turnp1ke We spent our last nlght ofthe tr1p there and the next day was spent commg back to Boggstown One can truly say the tr1p was enjoyed very much by all not only by the school students but also by the faculty members w1th us Certamly there was never a dull moment even the tedlum of the long bus r1des was a1lev1ated by the ever changln scenery The tr1p was taken w1th an educatlonal purpose xt achleved that purpose Thomas Blackburn The Jumor and Semor Classes of Boggstown H1gh School accompan1ed by Mr Rlchey pr1nc1pal and Mrs Poe Juxuor sponsor went to Ind1anapol1s on February 8 1955 to see the State Leg1slature 1n act1on Whlle 1n the gallery of the Senate we were 1ntroduced by R1chard Newhouse he Republlcan senator who res1des ln Morr1stown When we later sat 111 the House gallery the v1s1tors galler1es by the way are dlrectly OppOSlf9 each, other on the second floor we were 1ntroduced by Carson Kmg the Democratlc representat1ve who 1lVES 1n Boggstown Our 1ntroduct1ons were there fore b1 partlsan No world shakmg busmess was taken up by e1ther house but we saw enough to g1ve us an ldea how a state government operates Later 1n the afternoon we sat 1n a pol1ce court Th1s court wh1le we were there 3 . t . l . h . - . g . . , . . , t only decided cases on traffic offenses. --Thomas Blackburn . 27 ' ' ' ' ' 7 .
