Lumberjacks Make It To Slate Semi-Finals .lacks Shine at Double-Hitter The Lumberjacks took both games against Pearl Riverg the first 8-5 and the second 10-4. In the first inning the Jacks grabbed a 2-1 lead, and by the 3rd inning it grew to 3-1. The Jacks later received five more runs to ice off the victory of the first game. The second game the .lacks jumped to an early 3-0 lead and by the 3rd in- ning had gained five more runs to make it 8-0. The Jacks later upped their score by two to make it 10-3. Jacks Lose Opener Although the Lumberjacks lost their season opener 5-1 , it was said that as far as execution was concerned, it was a good season opener. The Jacks made many outstanding offensive and defen- sive plays. Skippers Shell Jacks Early in the first inning the Lumber- jacks fell behind, 3-0. ln the second in- ning the Skippers poured on six more runs, which totaled 9-0. The Jacks re- ceived their only run late in the 3rd in- ning, and the score remained the same throughout the match, 9-1. Tate's Home Run Gives Jacks Win .l,.l, Tate's dramatic two-run home run with two out in the seventh inning lifted the Jacks to a 7-5 win over the Salmen Spartans. Tate, a first base- man, jumped on a fastball and drove it far over the fence in left field as the Lumberjack players and fans erupted in pandemonium. His blast capped a three-run rally by the .lacks that wiped out a 5-4 lead by Salmen. l. Hoping for a base hit is team captain Lance Byrd. 2. Sliding to second base is Butter Lundy. 3. Jacks Rip Skippers The Lumberjacks took an early lead in the first inning, 1-0, but the next three innings were very quiet. In the fifth in- ning the Jacks erupted to a 7-0 lead. In the seventh inning the score moved to a larger spread, 9-3. The Jacks added two more runs and iced off this rematch with the Skippers. Jacks Smack Pack They don't come much sweeter-the Jacks whipped the St. Paul's Wolves 3-1 , The Jacks had suffered a crucial loss in the first inning when Al Ratliff was spiked on a steal to second base. The Jacks tied it in the fourth inning when Bruce Plummer walked, stole second, moved to third on a groundout by Lun- die, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Der- rick Timmons. In the bottom of the sixth with the score tied 1-1, Butter Lundie hammered in a two-run homer that won the contest. Jacks Clinch Playoff Berth The Jacks tied for the District 8-AAA title by whipping the Franklinton De- mons 9-1. The game was a continuation ofa game that had been stopped because of rain in the third inning with the Jacks leading 5-1. Play began in the bottom of the third inning. The Jacks picked up right where they left off, riding the pitching of Al Ratliff and the hitting of Bruce Plummer to win. The Jacks upped their lead to 6-1 in the fourth inning when Mike Ward doubled to right and scored on a throwing error by Franklin- ton. It grew to 7-1 in the fifth inning when Plummer hit a shot to right for a single, stole second and moved to third on a single by Lundie. The .lacks wrapped up the scoring in the sixth in- ning when Ward walked, stole second and scored on an error. 82 Baseball
