HEARTBREAK JACKS SUFFER LOSS TO ZACHARY Grown people cried. . .no one believed , . . no one accepted what the scoreboard told. In one of the most stunning upsets in Bogalusa High history, the Zachary Broncos scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns, to wipe out an 18-0 deficit and whip Bogalusa by 19-18 in the state quarter-finals. Zachary, displaying great courage and character in the face of overwhelm- ing adveristy, owned the last 20 minutes and, ultimately, the game. Perhaps it all came too easily for the Jacks. At the half they led 18-0 after thoroughly dominating the Broncos. The Broncos didn't even cross mid-field until just 3:30 remained in the third quarter. Displaying remarkable resiliency and guts, Zachary capitalized on two key Bo- galusa fumbles in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter to pull out the tri- umph. 1. Ready for the coin-toss are the Lumberjack cap- tains. 2. Bewildered and shocked is Robert Brown. 3. Disappointed by the outcome ofthe game, Missy Frazier lets her emotions flow. 4. Stunned and up- set, Quinn Cassidy and Bobby Cotton leave Lum- berjack Stadium, B-Jacks. lst Row: David Rou- sell, Carlos Smith, Joey Kees. The Jacks never trailed, zipping to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, fighting off a furious rally by the Demons in the sec- ond quarter to lead 21-14 at the half. Bogalusa put icing on the cake in the second half with two touchdowns, when Bogalusals size and strength wore down the Demons. Jacks Wrap Up Perfect Season Big and powerful Lumberjacks took away Salmen's most powerful weapon- the run-and closed out a 10-0 season with a 20-7 win over Salmen Spartans. Salmen made Bogalusa work over- time for everything it got. ln a somewhat sloppily-played second quarter, the teams traded fumbles and interceptions until the final 38 seconds when Joey Dudley pounced on a fumble, setting up Lundie's scoring pass to Magee which gave the .lacks its 14-0 halftime advan- tage. Bogalusa iced the game midway of the fourth quarter when Lundie orches- trated a 60-yard march for the final touchdown. Explosive Jacks Pop Lutcher On a field more suited for riverboats, the Bogalusa Lumberjacks sailed to an easy win over the Lutcher Bulldogs in the opening round of the state playoffs. On a field made wet and slippery by day-long rains, Bogalusa rode the pass- ing of Butter Lundie and the play of its defense to the win. Lunfdie completed 10 of 20 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Bogalusa's defense, after being fooled on several occasions by Lutcher trick plays, fought back to take control of the contest. 1. Receiving the pass is Rogie Magee. 2. Taking a short break is Mark Bennett. 3. Anticipating a fourth down for the opposition is Tony Granger. Football 65
