Emilabmwwr A-V EMA Lumberjacks Grind Lions The Bogalusa Lumberjacks were in command all the way, jumping to a 14-0 lead at the half, upping it to 21-0 early in the third quarter, and breezing the rest of the way to a surprisingly easy 21-8 win over the arch-rival Covington Lions. The Jacks ran up 442 yards total of- fense to Covington's 160. Jacks Pound Amite The score could have been 60-O, but Lewis Murray was very charitable. The Jacks pounded the Amite Warriors 47-2 in the District 8-AAA opener for both clubs. Everyone on Bogalusa's roster played. For a half, Bogalusa didn't look too super. The Jacks led only 12-0 at inter- mission. On the first play of the second half, however, Bruce Plummer cracked offleft tackle, got outside, and out-raced Amite's secondary 57 yards for a score. From then on, it was all Bogalusa. Jacks Zip Past Skippers Bogalusajumped to a 21-0 lead at the halfand coasted to an easy 28-6 win over the Mandeville Skippers. The Jacks completely dominated the first half, run- ning up 270 yards total offense and 14 first downs to Mandevillels 28 total yards and one first down. The Jacks' first offensive unit played one series in the second half, scored a touchdown for a 28-0 lead, and retired to the bench for the rest of the game. Man- deville got its only score in the fourth period to cap a 55-yard drive. 1. Looking downfield for running room is Butter Lundie. 2. Explosive Plays Highlight Tie Games in Bogalusa Jamboree Play in the 1982 Bogalusa Jamboree proved to the football fans in Washing- ton Parish that they were in for an explo- sive season. The Lumberjacks played the Demons to a 7-7 tie, and the Wildcats to a 6-6 tie. Jacks Sparkle in Season Opener The Lumberjacks shellacked the Hammond Tornados by a score of 29-6, The Jacks finished the game with 14 first downs and 345-yards in total of- fense. The Lumberjacks stepped to a 22- 6 lead at the half, expanded it to 29-6 midway of the third quarter, and were in complete command the rest of the way. Lumberjacks Ended John Curtis Win- ning Streak for 400th Victory The battle's over and the victory's been won, and the victor was the Lum- berjacks by a score of 14-9. The win was not only important because it increased the Jacks l982 record to 2-O, and ended a John Curtis winning streak, but it proved to be of historic significance in that it was the 400th victory in Bogalusa High School history. The game was a defensive struggle from the word go. The game progressed through the first quarter with neither team scoring. The half ended with the Jacks leading 7-3. Neither team man- aged a score in the third period. With 4:21 left in the game, Bobby Cotton ran into the end zone for a second Jacks touchdown. l. Trying for the extra point is the Lumberjack kicking team. 2. lnhibiting a block is Jimmy Wil- liams. 3. Going for a sack is Chris Adams. 4. Homecoming . . . Rain, Rain, Rain The Lumberjacks blasted the Live Oak Eagles 28-6. The Jacks jumped to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and coasted the rest of the way. Live Oak's only touchdown came midway of the second quarter on an interception. The Jacks marched 85 yards right up before the half to wrap up the night's scoring. The second half was filled with interceptions and errors. Jacks Ax Wave Same song . . . Fourth verse. The Lumberjacks won again beating the Ponchatoula Greenies 29-0. Bogalusa fans enjoyed seeing the .lacks zip to a 13-0 lead by scoring the first two times it had the ball. By half- time Bogalusa led 21-0. The Jacks had rolled up 197 yards total offense to mi- nus four for the Greenies. In the second half, the .lacks marched 56 yards the first time it had the ball to close out the night's scoring. Big Jack Attack Leaves Wolves Hungry In a carnival-like atmosphere in Cov- ington, the Jacks were pushed to the lim- it for the first time all season and re- sponded with a 24-13 triumph over big and powerful St. Paul. Bogalusa and St. Paul were penalized over and over again. Bogalusa lost 110 yards and St. Paul, 120 yards. The Wolves drew first blood, scoring with a 19-yard pass in the first quarter. Bogalusa answered immediately. Then midway of the second quarter, the Jacks took the lead for good. The lead grew to 18-7 on Bogalusa's first possession of the second half. St. Paul cut the deficit in the third quarter to 18-13. In the fourth quarter, the .lacks scored again to cap off the win. 1. Discussing strategy with Coach Murray is Bust- er Stewart. 2.
