1982 The Year That Should Have Been Bogalusa, the state's top-ranked team in Class AAA football, wasn't without tal- ent. This fact was proven in the selection of the Class AAA All-State team, as Bo- galusa had four players chosen. Quarter- back Orlando Butter Lundie was a solid pick as the state's Outstanding Offensive Player. Joining Butter on the all-state team were wide receiver Rogie Magee, offensive guard Jimmy Breazealeg and de- fensive tackle Sean Smith. Tight-end Mark Bennett was an honorable mention selection. Being district champions had its re- wards, too. The Lumberjacks, who steam- rolled everyone in District 8-AAA, landed nine first-team berths on the Coaches All- District team. ln addition, quarterback Butter Lundie was chosen Most Valuable Player on offense and Lewis Murray was named Coach ofthe Year. Landing berths on the first-team offense were center Wes Robertson, guard Jimmy Breazeale, tight end Mark Bennett, wide receiver Rogie Magee, and Lundie. On the first-team de- fense were tackle Sean Smith, line back- ers Clay Foreman, and Bruce Plummer, and defensive back Donnie Adams. l. Anticipating the next offensive play is Ricky Warren. 2. Explosive Plays Highlight Tie Games in Bogalusa Jamboree Play in the 1982 Bogalusa Jamboree proved to the football fans in Washing- ton Parish that they were in for an explo- sive season. The Lumberjacks played the Demons to a 7-7 tie, and the Wildcats to a 6-6 tie. Jacks Sparkle in Season Opener The Lumberjacks shellacked the Hammond Tornados by a score of 29-6, The Jacks finished the game with 14 first downs and 345-yards in total of- fense. The Lumberjacks stepped to a 22- 6 lead at the half, expanded it to 29-6 midway of the third quarter, and were in complete command the rest of the way. Lumberjacks Ended John Curtis Win- ning Streak for 400th Victory The battle's over and the victory's been won, and the victor was the Lum- berjacks by a score of 14-9. The win was not only important because it increased the Jacks l982 record to 2-O, and ended a John Curtis winning streak, but it proved to be of historic significance in that it was the 400th victory in Bogalusa High School history. The game was a defensive struggle from the word go. The game progressed through the first quarter with neither team scoring. The half ended with the Jacks leading 7-3. Neither team man- aged a score in the third period. With 4:21 left in the game, Bobby Cotton ran into the end zone for a second Jacks touchdown. l. Trying for the extra point is the Lumberjack kicking team. 2. lnhibiting a block is Jimmy Wil- liams. 3. Going for a sack is Chris Adams. 4.
