BHS Students Take Europe By Storm This year, 32 foreign language stu- dents and 10 adults toured Europe with Mrs. Jo Al Holcomb. The major countries visited were France, Ger- many, Italy, and England, with shorter stays in Belgium, Luxem- bourg, Switzerland, and Austria. In London, while walking in the Buck- ingham Palace and Westminster area, the group caught a glimpse of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Other activities in England included a trip to Bath, Salisbury Cathedral, and Stonehenge, a stage production of MARILYNY, visits to Wimbledon, British Museum, I-larrod's, Tower of London, and Easter Services in St. Paul's Cathedral. In Germany, the route followed the Rhine River through the Black Forest, and into Heidleberg. The highlights of Austria and Switzerland were snow, moun- tains, and a tour of the Olympic ski jump. ln Italy, it was Venice with its canals and blown glass Cand a toga party in the hotellj, and Florence with its art and Michaelangelds famous statue of David. Then two days on the Riviera: Nice, Monaco, Monte Carlo, and the beautiful corniches above the Mediterranean. Finally on to Paris via Dijon! The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Versailles, Fontainebleau, Louvre, and Notre Dame! Saying goodbye to Paris was hard, but cross- ing the tempestuous English Channel back to London for our trip home helped. Our final night in London was the scene of the famous cheese awards. The next morning, everyone boarded the plane, gave a sad farewell to Europe, and agreed it had been a great three weeks. 1. On a whirlwind tour of Paris, the group vis- ited the famous Notre Dame Cathedral. 2. A short stop in Switzerland gave the students a chance to play in some snow. 3. Everyone poses for a final shot before leaving Bogalusa. 4. Oh, good griefl 6. One of the most breathtaking sights in Paris was the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles. 7. Having fun on the Paris Metro in our Burger-King Crowns! 8. Vin Knight seems to get a kick out of the Queen's horse guard in England. 9. At the Mediterra- nean Sea in Monaco. some ofthe group try to get as close to the water as they can get without actually getting wet . . .they weren't successful.
