D.E.C.A. Distributive Education Clubs of America lDECAl was a Student organization which complemented instruc- tion received in Marketing and Distribution. The students in DECA attended school half a day and received on-the-job training the other half of the day. DECA had such events as the DECA olympics, DECA leadership labs and also discussed career develop- ment. DECA was a very promising course, and their sponsor was Mr. Mc Corkle. Vocational Indu trial ' Club of America VICA, or Auto Mechanics class, as it is known, is one of the most productive groups on campus at Boerne High School. ln addition to a two-year program for students seriously interested in pursuing a mechanical career, students have the opportunity to build or rebuild cars for themselves and others. Hands-on ex- perience also is gained by servicing the entire fleet of buses of the Boerne ISD. The local chapter of VICA has been sponsored by Mr. Vernon Hicks for many years. The first year of Agriculture is devoted to parliamentary procedure, breeding, woodworking, plumbing and electrical maintenance, all skills used on a farm or ranch operation. They are eligible for membership in F.F.A. These boys and girls are encouraged to par- ticipate in the organizations activities and seek a future leadership role. The second year in Vocational Agriculture is devoted to more detailed work in the same areas as Agriculture I., but added to the curriculum is informa- tion on disease, anatomy, and nutrition. By this time, leadership roles have been determined and many of these people are participatory in contests. Members awarded banners for competition. 90 FFA
