uill and Scroll The Quill and Scroll Society is an organization of journalism students who have been recognized by the society as outstanding journalists. To be con- sidered for membership a student must be in the upper one-third of their class, have an A average in journalism, and be recommended by their advisor. The Boerne Chapter has been in operation since 1970. The society inducted twelve new members from the 84-85 school year. They are pic- tured below. Mr. R. L. The Bark moved into the land of high technology which helped the staff meet the extreme pressures of the newspaper world. Under the direction of Ron Rankin, nine issues of the newspaper were run during the school year of 1984-85, and received the Award of Achieve- ment in facing the top 4A com- petition in the state. The Bark had individual stan- douts on its staff. Mary Wade, ad- ded her name to the list of i'Boerne's State Champions when she won first place in state competition for her student art while David Kilgore received third place in state in sports writing. The Bark faced pressures of having to write articles, lay out pages, and meet deadlines, along with expanding to 28 pages per issue, and did so with pride and grace. JOURNALISM I77

They com- peted in Texas Forensic Tournaments in the earlier spring. Placing well in Debate, Extempt, and others. In the AAA competition they won the district, and sent 6 people to Ms. Lucchelli Regionals in Debate, and Extempt, and won second in the state in standard debate. SPEECH CLUB 79
