Under the direction of Ron Rankin, nine issues of the newspaper were run during the school year of 1984-85, and received the Award of Achieve- ment in facing the top 4A com- petition in the state. The Bark had individual stan- douts on its staff. Mary Wade, ad- ded her name to the list of i'Boerne's State Champions when she won first place in state competition for her student art while David Kilgore received third place in state in sports writing. The Bark faced pressures of having to write articles, lay out pages, and meet deadlines, along with expanding to 28 pages per issue, and did so with pride and grace. JOURNALISM I77
