The Spirit of Homecoming . . . Homecoming and the spirit all football games possess hold a special place in the hearts of students. Whether they participated in one of the school organizations that made it so special or were just a proud observer, they had a treat. The week of Homecoming had spirit days where students showed some of their true colors. None of us ever knew Mel Ellenwood and Kris Kahanek were quite so liberal. The night before the big game, the bonfire helped to build the enthusiasm. The cheerleaders, band, and other spirit organizations provided a great show by the glowing orange halo of light created by the burn- ing pile of brush. Alas, the grand finale was upon us. Before the game against Holy Cross, the King and Queen of Homecom- ing '84 were named and honored. The players got their last bit of encouragement by running through the painted sign of the Seniors. With the coaching from the sideline, the game went just as it was planned. During the half-time show, the band and Royalettes strutted their stuff. After the football players came back on the field and finished the game, the fans left with a renewed feeling of accomplishment and pleasure. Thus, that pride for purple and white lives on not only during Homecoming and football season, but also throughout the year. il- Q l ! if Homecoming Queen of 1983, Shelly Reeves, and Principal Clifton Schmitt .NW Kick'em high girls! crown the new Queen of Homecoming 1984, Staci Allen, and honor King Mel Ellenwood.
