With all expected back, Coach Don Murray fVarsityJ describes them as a nucleus for the Varsity next year. One of the victories came against Northeast, who fell by a surprising score of 25-6. The I.V.'s line was led by Phil Ellis and Mike Golden. HB Al Turner broke 100 yards more than once. Voted Most Valuable Player this year was Willie Searcy. QB Willie Edwards played with a jammed thumb, outstanding player Tony Ross was out most of the season with a separated shoulder, and end Todd Tschantz was lost with torn ligaments after the Homecoming Game.Despite all of these injuries, Bill Engel made ALL-CITY defense. Also Engel and Edwards were voted MVPS. Newton and Baxley were voted Outstanding Linemen COFF. and DEFJ and Ross and Flanigan were voted Outstanding Backs KOFF. and DEFJ. The team started with 80 players and ended up with 45. Many of the games were close. Quarterback was Herschel Millsaps, run- ning backs were Ernest Wright and Michael Har- perg excellent in defense was Steve Slovak. Most Valuable Player was Kelly Tabor.
