Dear Seniors: Dedications are sometimes happy and sometimes sad, depending, of course, on the reason for the activity or the item to be dedicated. Memorials, statutes and the like are usually given in honor of someone who has made a great donation such .as a monetary gift for some civic improvement, or to someone who has made a worthwhile contribution or discovery in science, literature, medicine, art, etc., or to commemorate the life ofa hero. In January of l954, the school board of this county dedicated Boca Ciega High School. It was a happy occasion and I am sincerely thankful that I was present and a part of that dedication program. In June of the same year, the first copy of the Treasure Chest was issued and I was a part of that dedica- tion. lt, too, was a happy one. As seniors, you have seen other dedications take place here at Boca Ciega and I am sure most of these have been pleasant experiences. The dedication of the l957 Treasure Chest is also one which I am sure you will consider happy. At the some time there is a rather sad or unhappy side. You seniors came to Boca Ciega the same time I came here as your principal. You have seen Bogie grow over a four year period, just as I have seen it grow. You are the only class which can say that. No other class before you has been here for that period of time. No other class after you can ever say that it enrolled here the day our school first opened its doors. These things make Boca Ciega belong more to you than to any other class before this year or in years to come. The reputation, personality, and char- acteristics of our school are more yours than any other class. Because Boca Ciega belongs more to you than to any one else . . . because you had more to do in making Boca Ciega what it is today, the Annual staff dedicates the l957 Treasure Chest to you. May you look through its pages and recall happy moments and sad, may you take great pride in your accomplishments, they are of your doing and this is your book. Sincere wishes for success. . new Richard L. Jones, Principal Boca Ciega High School 14 Your friend,
