The National Honor Society is a nation-wide honorary organization. The membership is limited to 5M of the iunior class and 161: of the senior class. The students are chosen on the basis of their scholastic average, leadership in school, and their service to the community. There are two tappings a year. The first one in the fall is the tapping of the seniors and the final tapping of the iuniors in the spring. This year the Boca Ciega Chapter had as its project the state convention. This was held in St. Petersburg. Our Chapter acted as co-hosts with Northeast and St. Petersburg High Schools. Officers: Barbara Huton, Treasurer, Sally Mengerink, I.C.C. SENATE First Row: Dee Karol, Beverly Whatley, Connie Anderson, Jeannie Miller, Wally Kent, David Hanna, Pat Wilson, Carol Sparks, Pat Sikes, Betty Mae Rose, Isabel Scott. Second Row: Marty Lindahl, Robyn Flem- ing, Marcia Nicholes, Jane Ann Briggs, Belle Twitty, Missy Hughes, Jane Ross, Carol McRae, Myrna Quidley, Joy Kratzer, Geri Vrabel. Third Row: Danny Parter, Allen Goldenson, Bill Palke, Tom Dunn, Robert Crowther, Tom Hall, Mike Holloway, Al Leach, Ray Benner, Jerry Schalter. The Senate is the third branch of the Student Government and has a representative from each homeroom. These representatives bring suggestions from the students to the working Senate. The Senate's annual project of collecting Southern Maid and Blue Horse wrappers secured for them last year a phonograph and a television set which is in the cafeteria being enjoyed daily by the students. The activity point system which the Senate also sponsors encourages rivalry between homerooms and a stronger school spirit. The Senate also has worked on a scholarship plan for Junior College. Officers: Adviser, Mr. Fred Holtman, Sec- retary, Myra Westmang President, Bar- bara Schnackenberg, Vice President, James King. A year round project of the Senate was the collection of Blue Horse wrappers. One project of the Senate was the making ol gold and white ribbons for the Homecoming Activities. 95
