Cm 'S M01-1'11'-' 1 1 '54 September 7, 1951 -- We are sentenced to four years manual labor in the rock mines of the BIYIUS Township Peflilemiafy. Numbers and cells are distributed, but being new, they are difficult to locate. At a meeting in the warden's office we learn the rules and regulations. Inmates participate in Annual Minstrel, turning out to be a success! Everyone on good behavior, we get time off. Our first anniversary, one down three to go. September 7, 1952 -- We begin our second year in the pen. We are again greeted by the warden and our old cellmates. Jean F annock takes over as Captain of the Cellblock. Prison athletes show fine exhibitions on the prison grounds. Cell inspection regularly for weapons, no evidence of a break, we are recessed. September 4, 1954 -- Serving third term, time passes rapidly. Marks of Identification are passed out in case of trouble, fclass ringsj. Our best striped suits are cleaned for the third term dance. Before the final exam we are placed in solitary confinement, all pull through. September 9, 1954 -- Back in the dungeon to serve our last year. Four Termers hold Halloween Hop for inmates. Cons blend voices for Christmas show. A bond issue was voted on, Mr. Swank replaced the old warden, Bar-B-Q Sales proceeds went toward Senior Prisoners annual record book. Rosemarie Snukis takes position as new Cellblock Captain. Frosty Fantasy Dance proved to be a success despite the prisoners disappointment that Frosty wasn't there, our instigator, Joan F annock made up for this disappointment. All prisoners are released to prison privileges under guardian and then paroled. Commencement, sentence ends, Warden and guardians shake our hand and give us our walking papers. A new and different life is ahead for all of us. ,n ,aivk with the realization that we are still very yotmg in heart and experi- ence, with the knowledge that with their counsel there is yet peace and love, and a deeper, calmer faith for us to seek: we gratefully dedi- han: fhio fha 1OKR l'h-annn in nun- llnfhnne -inf! GOVERN GUARD Blythe didn't expect to set the world on fire with the opening of the 1954 football season. Since there were only three seniors on the squad of 25 candidates, a golden opportunity to build for the future is very promising. As usual our team played a grueling schedule compareable to any team in the eastern conference. Blythe opened up their September schedule with the Big Three on foreign soil-Coaldale, Mahanoy City and Tamaqua. Even though Coaldale paraded forty yards in the opening minutes of play for the lone touchdown, Blythe battled the tigers to a standstill. A super-charged team from Mahanoy City displayed a scoring punch overwhelming Blqthe by a high score. With an injured riddled Panther Team from Blythe and a juggled line-up Tamaqua exerted an extra push to down Blythe but not without a gallant stand. Blythe was weakened when Govern was injured in the 4th quarter, enabling Tamaqua to rack up 20 points in this fatal quarter. A somewhat unhappy and demoralized Blythe team just did not have the push against Nesquehoning and Frackville, a newcomer on our scale. COACH G. TUPPIE , , F in it Ay G- ,f j ffl S5 I5 15 G. Hard practice, blocking and tackling drills, scrimmaging and skull practioe and fundamentals of football were stressed during the week. But again the Panthers just didn't click. with Summit Hill as our next opponent our team was shooting the works. But again, Lady Luck did not favor us. In our next game it was a matter of record meeting a powerful Coal Township. grid team. Coal Township was a contender for the Eastern Conference championship. Ditto for Mahanoy Township. A victory starved Blythe seemed to be on the right road in its meeting against West Mahanoy Town- ship. In spite of the season displayed by the Panthers, Walter Govern and John Royak brought glory to our Alma Mater by participating in the annual Dream Game held at Shenadoah for the benefit of the Crippled Childrens' Society, Coaldale 6 Blythe O Cass 25 Blythe 0 Mah.
