, ' .b,,, . :fy- v V f s i I n f p Q s , I i E w 5 l 1 1 I Q i THE RETRUSPECT 195 This book is published annually by the Senior Class of Blume High School, Wapakoneta, Ohio, commemorating the biggest year of its life. Martha C. Parlette, Editor-in-Chief. Kenneth L. Bailey, Business Manager Alice M. Baeumel, Literary Editor. lack E. Earl, Art Editor. Barry L. Paul, Sports Editor. FOREWARD As the 3:54 bell rings, we seniors are reminded that this signifies the closing of our department store, which we have chosen to represent our high school days. For many of us this event will mean the end of school forever 5 for some it shall bring forth marriage, others shall step through the doors of higher learning g and still others may heed the call of their country to protect this great democracy in which we live. Our association of the past four years has been a happy one. Though the time has quickly passed, we have worked, played and sacrificed together to record in our hearts a lasting memory. This memory will many times come to each one of us as we contribute to life's huge store with its many opportunities. We, too, were once the office boys of this department store, but as time progressed and We be- came more learned, we found it possible to elevate ourselves. This was especially true if we heeded the advice of those who had gone before us. So to those who, over a period of years, shall take our place as seniors, we say, Make the most of an opportunity. As it is very unlikely that we shall ever again be together, the annual staff has made possible this 1952 yearbook. We hope, as you reminisce through it, that the pictures of your teachers, your classmates, and of Blume itself bring back the fondest of memories. May you treasure this book, and we hope that in years to come it can be found among those things which you IIIOSI cherish. Ed. DEDICATION W'ithout the financial assistance of our local businessmen, the publication of this annual would have been improbable. As a means of extending our appreciation to this group, it is to them that we dedicate this 1952 RETROSPECT PROGRESS THROUGH KNOWLEDGE M 1 LJ , lil . 1.1! x ll 1 T L L, ! SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Entering Blume as seventh graders, we found that we were at a loss as to finding our classrooms. However, we soon learned our way around and became a part of the school life. We helped support our basketball and football teams by having Miss McGranahan, a former teacher, lead us in a snake dance. Both years we topped the senior high stu dnts in the Ir. Red Cross Drive. We were privileged to have some members of our class in the first band. In the seventh grade we spent a joyous day at the Ohio Caverns. In the eighth grade we planned a program of Christmas carols which was sung at the Auglaize County Home. This same year our class spent a day in our state capital visiting points of interest. Upon entering the senior high as freshmen, we learned to know new members of our class who came from Moulton, St. Iohns, and Uniopolis. The upper classmen realized very quickly that we were as vital a part of the school as they when we began to contribute our share towards the numer- ous activities. On March 10th we felt very proud in having the first closed Freshman-Sophomore Dance in Blume's history. At the close of the year we entered the School Council and the Lantern organizations. As sophomores we began to feel just a little more grown-up. We now held offices in several or- ganizations. At Homecoming time we chose our sophomore attendant. Again, in collaboration with the freshman class, we sponsored a closed Freshman- Sophomore Dance. During our third year in high school, we were being considered upper classmen along with the seniors. This year four of our classmates were selected to serve as our class officers. Many of our mem- bers signed up for the Drivers' Training Course offered for the first time in Blumeis history. Again we elected one of our members to represent us in the Homecoming festivities. On November 17th we presented our first class play, Strictly Form al . At the close of our junior year, we sponsored the annual Iunior-Senior Prom, the theme being The Garden of Friendship . As seniors we were led by four members of our class who served as our class officers. At the Homecoming ceremonies we had had three of our girls under the spotlight. The girls came out on top again when those in G.A.A. captured the kickball championship for the fourth consecutive year. In March our class sponsored a Leap Year Dance. At the close of the year the seniors in various organi- zations were the guests at numerous banquets. 'l' On May 16th we were the guests of the junior class at a lovely prom. A couple of days later many of us received awards at the Recognition ceremonies. The final promotion in our department store led us to the beautiful graduation services held in the Wapa Theater. We are now ready to assume the responsibilities of our own stores, whatever they might be. So to each teacher, each student, and to Blume itself, we say Farewell , 'l' The dramatists of our class, on May lst and 2nd, presented Tattletale', as our senior class play.
