To those who will follow our paths through the halls of B. H. S. we. the Senior Class of Nineteen Hundred and Forty-Six dedicate this, the Twenty-first Volume of The Retrospect. Looking back through our laughter and tears, our victories and defeats, our friendships and romances. we sense a lasting fellowship in which we all share. Now as Graduates we turn fearlessly toward a future full of success. defeat. and opportunity. We shall take our places in this future, always striving to fulfill our dreams and ambitions. Unlike us, may you to whom we dedicate this book look back through your high-school life and see it clearly without the grim shadows of war. May you have many fond memories of the days you spend here and many aspirations for the future that awaits you. Willey Mr. Willey, our superintend- ent and principal, has the oversight of the entire school system in Bluffton, therefore he is concemed with the well- being of every student from the kindergarten to the Senior class. He shows genuine in- terest not only in our curric- ulum but also in the extra- curricular activities carried on in the school. Forward Hoping to capture the feelings which you of Allen High School have experienced, the 1946 Retrospect staff has tried to keep, as memories for you, the things you want to remem- ber. The school building itself will always remain the foundation for these memories, and will ever re- mind you of the activities, friend- ships, sports, and classes which con- stitute the very essence of tomorrow's America. 4 etr CC lzwf Mr. Fred Park As assistant principal, Mr. Park is responsible for seeing that everything is kept run- ning smoothlyg yet with all this responsibility, he is never too busy to confer with us students about our studies and our problems. 1T11p1 D1 BI1L1xltX 11111111111 Board of Education 1111151 L1 I1 I1 L ,N NXNK 1 ll 1111., 11 ll 1 1 X118 1 15 1 11 ll 11 1 UU 1B11tt11mj J11l111 G11ll111.111 11011811111 CL1111 IJ R FlI7p 111 1111 s0111 1dlX L E IflflUfll1fflf'6Lfl0Ifl A0 ,,.. 4 ,- 1 21 i NE ,JS 6 W . ff A fig Q 'o f, 0 0,! Starting with a group ot' inexperienced fellows is a job in any line of work and especially so in basketball. And nobody en- vied Mr. Oren. as he stepped in to take charge of this year's basketball team. Through Thanksgiving and Christmas and on up to the time of the Sectional Tourney. Mr. Oren worked and fought to develop the boys into a winning ball club. The team is to be commended on their fine sportsmanship and on their fighting determination to win. They could always be counted upon to stay in the game until the sound of the final gun. This year's cheer- ing section was the best Bluffton had ever had. The student body was behind the team 1002 and stayed with them. win or lose. At the end of the playing season. Jack Wood- ruff was elected honorary captain of the team. Basketball B-Team Although the 'Varsity squad got most ol' the glory and publicity. the Tiger Cubs must not be neglected or forgotten. for they are the future stars of our Varsity teams. The scrubs were composed ol' Juniors. Soph- omores. and Freshmen who wer:-n't quite ready to play Varsity ball, But that doesn't mean that they didn't have to observe train- ing rules or practice just as hard as the lirst team, Their usual job at practice was to serve as cannon fodder on which the varsity team sharpened their offense. During the season the B-team participated in a four team tourney of their own at Port- land. In a few years we'1l be cheering for these fellas as they toss them through the hoop in the Varsity games. The fellows were busily engaged in preparing for crop-judging in the coming State 4-li Fair. the Purdue Round-Up. and other activities. All through the summer these boys work- ed on identification of vegetables. determin- ing their varieties and grade defects. and on comparative judging of ear corn. shelled corn. oats, wheat, soybeans and clover seed. Two teams went to the State Fair. The first team. which was composed ot' Edson Ivins. Floyd Minnich. Spencer Meckstroth. and Kenneth Meyer. placed ninth out of a group of thirty-five teams. while the other team. made up of Lloyd Dunwiddie, Don Rudy. and Ramon Stoller. placed tenth. The next stop was the Purdue 'Vegetable Show where Kenneth Meyer. Lloyd Dunwiddie. Don Rudy. and Floyd Klinnich placed eighth: and Spencer Rleckstroth. Ramon Stoller. Ed- son lvins. Jim Powell. and Norman Wenger drew eleventh place in a contest of forty 'cams from all over the state. At the Pur- due Round-Up. Jim Powell. Francis Jamison. Lloyd Dunwiddie. and Kenneth Neyer placed sixth in a group ol' forty-three teams. Those boys who were among the first ten winners in the state contests will receive major letters for their achievements. They have set their goal at an even higher mark for next year: Mr. Wentz and the 4-H boys hope to bring top honors to B. H.
