FBLA There are over 100 members in the FBLA for the first time in the history of the organization which began in 1965. A hard-working president, Kerry Davis, has spear-headed the program of action which has been considerable this year. During graduation exercises in June, a $200 scholarship was awarded to Karen Harris who won an essay contest sponsored by the FBLA. Starting in the fall of 1980, the FBLA conducted a financial project to raise money to send members to the regional and state conferences and to award scholarships to graduation members. Donna Seay was the top DECA Bluestone DECA had an officer in- stallation ceremony and a new mem- ber initiation ceremony in which all new members received DECA pins. The DECA members also par- ticipated in the Fall rally at Halifax Senior High School. Three students, Randy Powell, Frankie Sheldon, and Todd Davis went to Virginia Tech for Marketing and Distributive Education Day. 26 Yearbook Yearbook Better Than Ever On going construction for a new darkroom and very litte classroom space created many problems for the yearbook staff. Our darkroom which was hoped to be finished in Septem- ber when school started was Above — Donna Seay, Yearbook Staff salesman selling more than any member has sold in the FBLA since its inception. The group then held a “Harvest Feast” which was well at- tended and enjoyed by all. Next, the FBLA sponsored a Christmas Door Decorations Contest which was won by Mr. A. C. Holloman’s homeroom. A $15 prize was given to his homeroom by the FBLA. For American Vocation Week, the FBLA conducted a different and special project each day, one of the more enjoyable ones having students in the FBLA ‘replace’ administrators and business teachers for a day. They also enjoyed a reception held as a For our Civic Consciousness pro- ject, the DECA members participated in a Rock-A-Thon at Southside Fur- niture in Chase City. The members raised $160. For our Vocational Un- derstanding project, all Marketing and Distributive Education students, with the cooperation of their managers, were allowed to be manager for a day at their respective training stations. not completed until February and still lacks a sink. Also a newly purchased wide-angle lens for shooting group shots was found to be defective. And, of course, this problem was dis- covered when all of the groups in school had their pictures taken and none came out. Rescheduled shooting could not be done until January. All of this contributed in making the yearbook almost two months late in delivery to the publisher. But on the good side, we were still able to offer sixteen pages of color and a good coverage of the activities at school. Co-editors Donna Seay and Arliene Hazelwood were disap- pointed in the number of books sold and the ads taken in but still enjoyed putting the book together and thanks everyone who had a hand in putting the book together. part of the week’s events. Members faithfully served in Red Cross Bloodmobiles in Clarksville and in Chase City four times during the year with several members donating their first units of blood. The February project was the March of Dimes for the eradication of birth defects. Members of the FBLA conducted a Rock-A-Thon to raise funds for this project. During March, members again successfully com- peted in the regional contests held at Virginia State University, the new region to which Bluestone’s FBLA has been assigned. Nine students, Delores Walker, Teresa Lee, Randy Powell, Harlos Cook, Ruthie Greene, Curtis Cheldon, Mary Revis, and Elic Trent went to the District Leadership Con- test at G. W. of Danville High School. For our Social Understanding Pro- ject, the members planned an Em- ployer Employee banquet in May.
