Prom Preparations The Prom of 1980 was the brainchild of the 1979-80 Junior Steering Committee. They spent many hard hours toiling at the setting for the Prom. The theme this year was “Holiday in Rome.” The gym was decorated to resem- ble Ancient Rome. The Steering Committee consisted of: Mike Morrison, Kerry Davis, Greg Bratten, Karen Jones, Alane Eggleston, Brian Foley, Donnie Hite, Perry Matthews, Martha Reamy, Richard Shelton, Ken- neth Tharpe, and Edith White. Many original ideas and helpful hints were provided by the Prom sponsors: Catherine Dirks, Nancy Talley, Kanny Partridge, Betty Crowder, Rachel Pixley, and A. C. “Breezy” Holloman. Left Top: G. Bratten and J. Richardson lay the ceiling out on the floor. Left Middle: Brian Foley, Paula Glasscock, Grant Carey, Edith White, Vera Hardeman, and Richard Shelton get the ceiling ready to go up. Left Bottom: Joyce Richardson wonders if it’s really worth all this work! Right Bottom: Wanda Spain and Cheryl Gryder help with the ceiling. Prom Preparation 15

“aK wie Fee = Holiday in Rome In 1980, for the first time in the school’s history, Bluestone elected a prom queen. Thir- |, 4 teen lovely girls were chosen to be on the Prom Court, (seven Seniors and six Juniors.) The Seniors were: Cathy Tingen, Jennifer Brewer, Cheryl Carter, Karen Robinson, Donna Royal, Karen Simmons, and Martha Smith. The Juniors were: Kerry Davis, Susan Fleming, Cheryl Gryder, Karen Jones, Pam Smith, and Wanda Walker. Near the end of the evening, the suspense was ended; Cathy Tingen had been elected Prom Queen 1980. The music was provided by “Southern Nights”, a Top-40 Band from Virginia Beach. Michael Morrison was Master of Ceremonies. Everyone who attended the Junior-Senior prom of 1980 felt it was a great success. 16 Prom
