Dirk s and Crowder Leave Coaching — ae See onli iti Bluestone’s cindermen and women were ee coached by Donnie Crowder and Catherine Dirks. Coach Crowder and his men had a rough season. Thirty boys started the season but only eighteen were dedicated enough to finish. Though few in number they were high in spirit. Led by their captain Irvin “‘the Bird’’ White, who ran the 100, 220, and 880 yards, but found his best event in the triple jump. The team placed third in the district. Several mem- bers went to the regional but only “‘Bird’’ went to the state. The girl’s track team under the coaching of Mrs. Dirks took third place in the district. They were also asked to participate in the Fluvanna Invitational. In the regional, the relay team of Carolyn Spencer, Karen Sim- mons, Josephine Jones and Kimberly Reese placed 4th in the 440 and 880. Carolyn Spencer placed 4th in the long jump which gave her a berth in the state meet at Harrisonburg. ie 7 B 52% Brunswick 63 2 Mataoca 51 Lovi6 Nottoway 67 Greensville 76 U. 35 Nottoway 83 Mataoca 49 E 34 Brunswick 13 Mataoca 56 S 41% Nottoway 67'% Greensville 9 T.. 28% Brunswick 402 Mataoca 60 O N E Top: Rhonda Gooch cheers for Bluestone Cinderman.
